Disability Claims Advisor Jobs

5+ years’ related experience in health claims management

Post secondary diploma in social work, medical science, risk management or communications.

Advanced understanding of claims management processes and objectives from inception to resolution cycles.

Assess claims for benefit entitlement by reviewing legislative, medical, functional, and occupational information.

Other duties as directed by the Senior Manager, Total Rewards.

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook.

Well-developed organizational, time management and prioritization skills

Strong typing and data entry skills

Populate internal tax forms as required to be sent to and handled by our Finance team

Assigning file and tracking information within an internal system called eCounsel

Update various internal Disability systems, such as BEN, DCT, ULtera, and Noteit to show that file has gone into Litigation

Request copy of contract for specific Group policy/policies relating to claims going into Litigation

Intermediate level knowledge with some form of related training and/or related experience or skills; Industry accreditation and training generally required

Prioritize and manage own workload to meet SLA requirements for service and productivity

Maintain a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite

Participate in personal performance management and development activities, including cross training within own team

Complete work within specifically defined parameters with guidance /direction from management as necessary

Protect the interests of the organization – identify and manage risks, and escalate non-standard, high risk transactions / activities as necessary

2 years’ experience in a customer service role.

Experience in the general insurance industry, particularly in the surety and/or warranty claims fields preferred.

Practical experience within the development and/or residential construction industries is considered a huge plus.

Working knowledge of computer applications, including MS Word and Excel is required.

Knowledge of Xact-Analysis and other web-based databases would be beneficial

Strong investigation and negotiations skills.

*Post-secondary education or a combination of relevant education and on-the-job experience.

*1 - 3 years of insurance adjusting industry or broker claims experience an asset.

*Strong English oral and written communication skills; Mandarin an asset.

*Working knowledge of Auto/Property adjusting and claim adjudication process an asset.

*Prior experience in customer service environment required.

*Insurance Claims Licence and actively pursuing CIP designation preferred or willingness to enrol

Excellent organizational and time management skills

Effective use of WCG’s Case Management System and other systems and databases

Keep abreast of emerging trends for claims assessment and flag these to the Lead, Claims Management

Strong auditing background and data entry experience

Undertake standard and ad hoc data entry tasks

Process client and employer financial support claims and ensuring contractual and legislative requirements are met

3-5 years of progressive Disability Claims Management experience in a large public corporate environment.

Self-directed and organized with effective time management skills.

Broad general knowledge of payroll, benefits, compensation programs and documentation.

Knowledge of BC and Alberta employment standards, wage, salary, benefits, and pension laws and regulations an asset.

Knowledge of Alberta, BC and Federal Worker’s Compensation legislation, programs, and processes.

Proven experience developing and rollout out programs across an organization.

5+ years of experience in in-house disability case management and return to work

Strong change management and coaching skills

Oversee management of disability files and act as a consultant to managers, employees and insurers during short- and long-term sick leave

Ensure effective management of return to work by developing intervention strategies and reintegration plans

Conduct disciplinary and/or administrative meetings related to attendance management

Manage data and statistics related to employee absenteeism

1-3 years of office experience; an Insurance or Medical/Clinic background is an asset

2-3 years of experience handling full cycle disability management

Determining if accommodations are required by coordinating with management, employee(s), and third party vendors

Knowledge of Provincial Labour Legislation, Human Rights Codes, AODA, Labour Relations, Worker's Compensation, and Health & Safety Guidelines

Work Experience: 1 to 3 years relevant experience. Background in a health-related field or case management would be an asset.

Accountability and responsibility to ensure that the management of required tasks within the assigned case load meets all service level standards.

Effective and consistent use of an electronic case management system (Fineos).

Strong organization and prioritization skills required to manage different type of tasks

Strong analytical skills, excellent problem-solving abilities and can work with minimum supervision.

Experience and knowledge of managing files related to mental health.

Experience related to disability claims management is preferred.

Plan, implement and evaluate sound case management principles.

Handle relationships with internal and external partners involved in management of customer claims

Acquire and maintain appropriate provincial adjuster licenses and comply with continuing education requirements – where required

Identify and report on any suspicions of fraud or financial irregularities in line with existing internal and external requirements and procedures

CIP or FCIP Industry designation or other relevant professional insurance qualification

University Degree or College Diploma or equivalent Property technical work experience

Excellent customer service skills with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders

Minimum 5 years’ Adjusting experience.

Detailed knowledge of 1st Party Property Coverages
