Job Description

Agilus is recruiting for a Disability Claims Advisor in the Construction Industry in Calgary, Alberta.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Total Rewards, the Disability Claims Advisor works collaboratively with teams to manage Workers Compensation Board (WCB) claims to resolution across all operating companies. This position can be based in Edmonton, Calgary or Mississauga.


Responsibilities:

  • Assess claims for benefit entitlement by reviewing legislative, medical, functional, and occupational information.
  • Ensure timely management of the WCB general mailbox and ensure general inquiries are responded to or directed to the appropriate team member for response.
  • Engage employees through open and respectful communication to understand the medical, social, and personal dimensions of their workplace absence.
  • Work collaboratively with employees HSE team and other stakeholders to obtain information, provide claim status, create action plans, and deliver decisions while maintaining confidentiality and privacy.
  • Attend internal meetings and outside training opportunities as required and directed.
  • Other duties as directed by the Senior Manager, Total Rewards.
  • Be the first point of contact for employees and Supervisors to guide them through the disability claim process, and escalate as needed.


Successful candidates will have:

  • Post secondary diploma in social work, medical science, risk management or communications.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written; thoughtful, proactive, creative.
  • Advanced understanding of claims management processes and objectives from inception to resolution cycles.
  • Client service mindset; dedication to high quality standards and on-time delivery.
  • Strong working knowledge of WCB legislation for all provincial jurisdictions, paired with a general understanding of applications related to Health & Safety and Human Rights.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • 5+ years’ related experience in health claims management
