OVERVIEW:
Under the direction and supervision of the Team Manager, Life and Disability Services, the Claims Adjudicator is responsible for adjudicating Short Term Disability claims on a daily basis, in accordance with the required standards, policies and procedures of the department.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Adjudicates and assess Short Term Disability claims, ensuring that proper application of rules and regulations outlined in the group policy and the Canadian Life and Health Association (CLHIA) are followed.
  • Responsible for the issuance of correct benefit payment.
  • Responsible for professional and accurate verbal and written communication with all stakeholders.
  • Communicates with various internal departments such Group Underwriting, Medical Underwriting, Group Administration, Group Sales, and Individual Products, among others to provide and share information regarding claim activities when required.
  • Communicates and prepares correspondence for employers, claimants, physicians and other treatment/care providers, lawyers, etc. as required.
  • Build relationships with claimants and employers and assist with intake process.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate sound case management principles.
WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and be able to assess priorities in a confident manner.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) would be an asset Enrollment in LOMA or other industry related courses would be an asset.
  • Must possess excellent knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of the insurance benefit industry is considered an asset.
  • Must be flexible, innovative, and independent.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational skills.
  • Degree or diploma in a health-related field such as in Nursing, Kinesiology, Rehabilitation Medicine, or Social Work is an asset.
  • Knowledge in life insurance and experience in life and disability claims management would be an asset.
  • Must work effectively with fellow employees and staff from other departments in a team focused atmosphere.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Experience or knowledge with Fineos is an asset.
  • Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience related to disability claims management is preferred.
