Who we are  Peel Housing Corporation provides safe, well maintained living environments for tenants in Peel Living and Region of Peel owned properties including 71 residential properties, two transitional housing residences and three emergency shelters. These services contribute to a positive experience for residents and enhance neighbourhoods where the buildings are located.

In this role you will Supervise a team including Maintenance Specialists, Maintenance Person, Specialists Fire and Life Safety, Coordinators and Students


What you will do in this role


  • Lead a multidisciplinary team by coaching, motivating, developing job objectives, disciplining, managing performance, assessing and delegating work, encouraging professional development, and ensuring quality and service standards and regulatory compliance are met.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders (vendors and sector organizations such as OMSSA, ONPHA, SHSC, etc) in the delivery of preventative maintenance and fire safety services; includes other departments that provide a range of services to Region of Peel buildings, Peel Living and other client providers.
  • Create and update the preventative maintenance schedule including activities and work plans to be undertaken, value provided to the organization, and related costs of initiatives/projects; presents preventative maintenance schedules to Housing Operations and Tenancy Management team for approval.
  • Monitor and analyze outcomes and use key performance indicators/measures to ensure Business Unit objectives are met.
  • Review and approve project plans developed by reporting staff or external contractors and monitors their implementation. Coordinates specified major capital works and preventative maintenance projects in collaboration with Technical Support Staff, Real Property Asset Management staff, and/or outside contractors.
  • Develop and implement work plans, business processes, budgets and staffing levels for the Technical Supports unit.
  • Ensure the scope of work for HVAC and other Contract documents in collaboration with Procurement Team are developed in a professional manner
  • Assist in the operational take-over and commissioning of new buildings where applicable.
  • Identify resource requirements to meet long-term operational commitments and to ensure financial soundness and economic viability of programs/services.
  • Develop Terms of Reference for all related Service Contracts and ensures contracts are managed effectively and within scope and budget, with no interruption to the services.
  • Handle issues of vendor non-performance regarding contract violations; implements corrective measures and coordinates communications both internally and externally.
  • Ensure capital works and preventative maintenance needs are coordinated into the capital plan to address long-term needs of the organization in a cost-effective manner.
  • Act as a primary developer and publisher of standards and benchmarks for Residential Property Management as it relates to preventative maintenance.
  • Lead preventative maintenance and support capital work needs to ensure such needs are implemented into the Capital Plan.


What the role requires


  • Research, analytical and problem solving skills necessary to gather and analyze data.
  • At least three years of leadership and/or supervisory experience (preferably in a unionized environment).
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams in order to conduct day to day business.
  • Short and long term planning skills and ability to develop and execute plans
  • In-depth knowledge of building condition assessment practices as well as expert knowledge of Architectural, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical Systems and building envelope, knowledge of their interaction, life cycle and performance indicators.
  • Knowledge of Peel Housing Corporation and Human Services programs as well as an understanding of customer service requirements with the ability to foster a holistic approach.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including but not limited to Housing Services Act, Residential Tenancies Act, Tenant Protection Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employee Standards Act, Technical Standards and Safety Authority, Ontario Fire, Electrical, and Building Codes.
  • Proficient use and experience with CMMS and CAMS, AutoCAD
  • Combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Post secondary degree in an Engineering, Business Administration or Contract Management with at least five years of preventative maintenance and building systems work related experience

  • Knowledge of project management principles and methodologies
  • General knowledge of capital planning and building systems in the context of sustainable financial parameters and to high level customer service.
  • Strong negotiation and collaboration skills in working with community partners, agencies and other levels of government
  • Well-developed communication skills, both oral and written; proven ability to present to various audiences both internal and external to Peel.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
  • Understanding of change management principles and methodologies.
  • Sound decision making capabilities including sound judgment and critical thinking to arrive at recommendations or conclusions.

Work Mode & Job Location In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga, ON worksite. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.


Hours of Work 35 hours per week
