Job Description
Resilience is ushering in an era of “Biomanufacturing-as-a-Service” that will displace in-house manufacturing and traditional contract manufacturing and development organizations (CDMOs). We see this as a paradigm shift in biomanufacturing akin to the IT industry’s adoption of Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) that rendered obsolete corporate-owned/operated data centers or corporate servers co-located in hosting facilities.

The Senior Specialist II, Network & Infrastructure Engineering, performs production support on Compute, Storage, Backup, WAN, LAN, WLAN, and related data center/infrastructure technologies at the site level. Supporting our Mississauga area, in this role, you will support commercial manufacturing or R&D environments – where security, operational control and velocity are critical.

In addition to supporting BAU (patching, upgrades, break/fix, etc...), you will be responsible for deploying new infrastructure & systems, including networking, remote access, MDFs, and IDFs, and supporting the deployment of new Manufacturing & Lab systems. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining tight operational control through change management and computer system validation documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Carrier Coordination: each site has several carriers, understand the local market, bring N+1 connectivity to a site, and configure failover; regular monitor and test for failover. Familiarity with repeater systems for 4G/5G, and 5G modems where required.
  • Core Network: be familiar with core switching and routing for multiple locations, performing configuration or maintenance as needed, including firmware upgrades.
  • Support computer system validation (CSV) activities by working with Digital Qualify and CSV organizations. Ensure all SOPs are followed when we are deploying/maintaining digital infrastructure.
  • OT & Lab Systems: prepare air-gapped and highly segmented networks for specialized equipment.
  • Maintain backup environment, troubleshoot backup failures as required, and provide necessary audits of the backup environment to satisfy global & site SOPs.
  • Troubleshooting: address outages and network performance issues as needed; proactively add equipment to central monitoring and address repeat issues.
  • LAN / WLAN: own the LAN and WLAN configuration for sites, including the segmentation and VLANs required in a plant (GMP facility) or R&D lab and guest wireless access.
  • Setup and manage local compute and storage gear, provision & manage VMs, and ensure systems are appropriately tracked and managed in CMDB.
  • MDF / IDF Preparation & Maintenance: prepare the physical MDF and IDF(s) for readiness by coordinating with cable vendors to deploy structured cabling, coordinating with Facilities to ensure appropriate power & cooling; installing and configure out-of-band equipment & ToR switching.
  • Provide, as required, appropriate connectivity between the local site infrastructure and cloud-based infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Change Control: Manage infrastructure changes through Change Control process. Ensure CMDB and all documentation is updated appropriately.

Minimum Qualifications

Technical Knowledge / Experience

  • Experience managing hybrid-cloud environments
  • Excellent knowledge of network security constructs – authentication, firewalls, segmentation, and VLANs.
  • Certification and training from at least two major network equipment providers: HP/Aruba, Cisco/Meraki, Fortigate, Palo Alto.
  • Experience configuring and using network monitoring tools
  • Experience supporting production networks from WAN to LAN.
  • Experience in regulated manufacturing and OT systems / IoT systems.
