About this opportunity:

Reporting to the Director, Strategy & Performance, and as a member of the IT leadership team, the Senior Manager, IT Business Office is responsible for providing leadership and setting the strategic direction, mission, and vision of the IT Investments in alignment with the objectives of the technology organization and the business.

The role also is responsible for monitoring of actual financial performance against budgeted and forecast expectations and ensures the requisite cost models support expenditure approvals and align with business plans, budgets, and other financial tracking mechanisms. This includes the development of periodic and ad hoc reports, as well as action appropriate financial transactions to support their assigned functional areas. 

This is an office-based position based at our office in downtown, Calgary, AB.

Responsibilities:

• Management of $300MM+ /year Operating & Capital Budgets for IT (developing, forecasting and comparing actuals against budget)
• Ensure financial practices are followed and adhered to
• Model show back to the IT Business streams
• Coordinate the financial planning cycles including collection, consolidation, preparation, and maintenance of financial models
• Ensure that the metrics used to evaluate performance are properly tied to business outcomes and bias-free and that the associated communications around these metrics are clear.
• Perform SAP transactions and queries as required
• QA of financial portion of business case submissions
• Contribute to the identification and implementation of IT financial solutions that improve efficiency and effectiveness by eliminating, simplifying, and automating processes
• Reporting on compliance of financial processes within assigned functional area
• Provide timely and accurate periodic reporting such as actual performance versus planned / forecast expectations and prior period performance
• Build periodic and ad hoc reports including business unit reports that capture key financial measures of success
• Long range planning submissions and executive presentation of IT budgets to the Cenovus Leadership Team
• Identify key risks and opportunities to budgets and / or forecasts
• Steward IT chargeback/allocation mechanisms
• Ownership and maintenance of financial portion of business case template

Qualifications:

• Able to conduct and summarize an interview with current users in the marketplace
• Strategic planner who creates value for customers
• Provides recommendations including risks
• Has developed vendor selection criteria and requirements
• Minimum of 7+ years of leadership and IT financial management experience
• In-depth experience in evaluating products or services from multiple vendors
• Technology experience & competence is a strong asset
• Partnering with IT to streamline and automate processes
• Ability to focus on investing in areas that will provide the greatest growth opportunities for the Company
• Must have experience with advanced financial and business transactions and translating complicated financial concepts into business practices
