Position Description:
The Toronto Region Board of Trade (The Board) is seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious Communications and Media Relations Coordinator to join our Communications team. The ideal candidate can operate in a fast-paced environment to provide support and take lead on various corporate initiatives. Reporting to the Director or Senior Manager, Communications, the Media Relations Coordinator will be responsible for creating, executing, and maintaining media relations, media lists, monitoring news stories and daily coverage, providing essential support in media strategy execution, executive-level briefings, and promoting corporate interest in a deadline-driven environment. Strong writing skills and a creative approach to what is news-worthy are must-haves.
Role Description:
- Manage incoming requests, coordinate all public relations activities, facilitating interviews.
- Develop briefing materials to prep executives for speaking arrangements including key messages, briefing notes, backgrounders etc.
- Manage and deliver the daily media report for the board, working with media monitoring programs and analytics.
- Help manage incoming media requests, including but not limited to information gathering, message development, and prepping of spokespeople.
- Build relationships with key media contacts by networking proactively to create authentic, constructive, and trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Work with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, which may include team members, Board members, or external associations.
- Serve as the primary media contact for the Board.
- Manage PR analytics tools and develop reporting standards to media reach, performance, sentiment etc. against business objectives.
- Identify potential risks and opportunities through media and social media monitoring; flag issues that require further analyses and suggest recommendations.
- Write and edit media materials including press releases, op-eds, company updates, key messages, and Q&As.
Your experience includes:
- Three to five years’ experience in media relations, communications, and/or public affairs.
- Experience in managing business critical issues, crisis management, and reputation protection.
- Strong research skills and ability to grasp complex issues.
- Strong political acuity and business acumen with the ability to translate complex economic, policy-driven and business content into a strong story and hook.
- Strong writing and editing skills for a variety of platforms and audiences.
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in media monitoring, analysis, insights, and reporting with the ability to distill information down to essential points.
- Demonstrated ability to manage numerous conflicting priorities and to consistently meet deadlines under pressure.
- Strategic thinker with ability to express ideas in a clear, well-organized manner.
- Experience writing compelling key messages and briefing senior executives in preparation for media interviews and related opportunities.
