Manager, Media Relations Jobs

Overview

Reporting to and supporting the Vice President, Media Strategy & Communications, the Media Relations Manager’s responsibilities include:

• Ensure that key messages are consistently updated.
• Act as the first point of contact for media and, in consultation with the Vice President, Media Strategy & Communications, develop appropriate response strategies and messaging for media requests regarding Canadian banking industry practices, regulations and statistics;
• Assist the Vice President, Media Strategy & Communications in the execution of an ongoing media relations outreach program with particular attention to the banking industry, broader business and political reporters and general assignment reporters;
• Assist in preparing CBA spokespersons for scheduled interviews;
• Prepare the CBA’s daily internal clipping package and produce media snapshots of issues of interest to the banking industry; and
• Assist in the development of messages and overall media relations planning on key and emerging issues in conjunction with the overall communications strategy;
• Develop and manage the CBA’s on-going social media strategy and outreach programs to ensure that they are creative and effective and keep up with current and future trends. This would include social media tracking and reporting, social listening, and analytics, and executing strategic recommendations.
• Prepare timely and effective news releases, social media content and other communications assets in support of CBA campaigns and advocacy initiatives;
• Monitor media and key third-party organizations through traditional and social media;
• Act as CBA spokesperson, if necessary, dependent on knowledge of the issue, availability of other spokespeople and media outlet making the request;
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with media, member banks, media relations/communications officers in relevant government departments and other key organizations and all CBA divisions.
• Support the development of executive communications including correspondence, speeches, and internal communications.
• Provide timely and high-quality responses to inquiries from the media, the public and other organizations, and internally to other divisions within the CBA;

Key Qualifications, Abilities and Skills

• A knowledge and understanding of federal/provincial politics would be considered an asset;
• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in a media relations position;
• Knowledge of common industry software and platforms helpful (Cision, Hootsuite, Salesforce, etc.)
• A post-secondary degree in a related area and a Communications/Public Affairs background;
• Proven knowledge of and experience using social media platforms for a company or organization;
• Demonstrated ability to write and edit media materials, social and website content, and other communications assets;
• Fluency in French would be considered an asset.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to develop creative and targeted communications materials for a variety of audiences;
• A background in banking or the financial services sector would be considered an asset;
