Position Overview:
Our client has an opportunity available for a Construction Controller in our Integrated Infrastructure Division in North York , ON.
Reporting to the VP Finance, the successful candidate will take a leadership role in the management of day-to-day operations and financial reporting within the Integrated Infrastructure (Roads and Paving) division.
Role Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly business unit statements, financial review information and annual business unit budgets and assist business unit managers in the financial planning processes
- Manage and control the accounting and construction administration staff to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting across all regions in Ontario.
- Provide analysis and support to business unit managers to ensure understanding of business unit statements and financial implications of business decisions
- Investigate profitability issues and forecasts changes
- Providing ongoing leadership and best practices in accounts payable and receivables processing through ensuring:
- Understand and support implementation of cost control, job costing and forecasting systems at the project level
- Working with accounting staff, regional general managers on month-end job costing and revenue recognition.
- Reconcile, analyze and report regional P&L’s and job cost data.
- Perform monthly divisional profit/revenue recognition, develop and analyze monthly cost reporting, and project forecasts
- review, audit and validate incoming documentation for accuracy.
- matched packing slips to authorized purchase orders.
- AP Invoices meet scheduled cheque runs and balance customer statements.
- customer project billings, investigate issues with outstanding invoices; and
- effective timely resolution of payment issues.
- Assist with internal and external audits as required.
- Compare actual costs to estimates and analyze variances including labour, materials, vendor and subcontractor payables, equipment and hired trucking.
- Monthly balance sheet reconciliations and lead sheet preparation. Reconciling and closing sub ledgers with efficiency and pressure deadlines.
- Working with Corporate Reporting Team to close off the GL month-end and report results into Corporate Head Office.
Desired Qualifications:
- Worked with ERP system. Know how to use not build.
- Strong accounting discipline. Have all the 14 divisions close at the same time. Consistent message to the 14 lead Job Costing Analysts and the 30 Job Costing
- Analysts (very experienced people). New polices come down from corporate, this Controller must implement and enforce.
- Strong people skills. Must be great communicator to staff of 30 cost analysts.
- Building Industry background. Must have strong background in building industry to get respect of reports. Knows about dealing with trades, vendor, when to recognize revenue.
