Job Description
IO’s Development Team is the centre for public sector land development in the Province of Ontario through its three Departments: Landmark Projects (LP), Social Purpose Projects (SPP), and Transit Oriented Communities (TOC). The Development team manages a $40BN program, working on some of the most impactful and high profile development projects in the Province, bringing together new and existing partners for the development of commercial solutions and the execution of related real-estate transactions to deliver on government priorities.

The three verticals, LP, SPP and TOC, have direct impact on Ontario’s infrastructure projects including the creation of landmark destinations, health and long-term care facilities, housing, and transit-oriented communities that integrate with public transit delivery (along major bus, subway(s) and GO/LRT stations). Your contributions will help to maximize housing supply, deliver long-term care beds, revitalize and modernize provincial destinations, and create complete communities that include affordable and attainable housing, public services, community amenities, recreation/ family entertainment, daycare and employment.

We are currently hiring multiple Senior Advisors for the Development Enterprise Team.

What You Will Do
  • As a Senior Advisor within Development, you will support the leadership team for either LP, SPP, or TOC, in a client-facing capacity. Collaborating through self-driven workstreams, with teams of internal and external consultants, stakeholders and subject matter experts, you will provide advisory services in support of key government infrastructure initiatives. Through the full project lifecycle, you will collaborate with teams of internal and external consultants to advise, propose solutions, present, and challenge the status quo for continuous improvement by generating, planning and constructing solutions that enable public and private sector stakeholders to deliver commercially viable solutions, and maximize the utility of land to construct complete communities.
  • Your ability to enhance and manage partnerships with municipalities, and interface with Provincial agencies, crown corporations, other intergovernmental partnerships, and the public, will set the foundation of your advisory work as you handle sensitive and supporting materials, manage the production of presentations, and provide advice that helps IO’s Development Team to: navigate policy decision(s) and government approval(s); participate in commercial negotiations; prepare business cases, including financial and/or planning analysis; manage master planning; manage and secure entitlement(s); coordinate site due diligence and preparation works; support tenant management and lease tracking; manage transactions; and produce key performance indicators/deliverables for new and new and existing lines of business. Through effective delivery of policy objectives, you will participate in saving taxpayer dollars, reducing costs and increasing revenues
Who We’re Looking For In LP, SPP, and TOC

  • Your application will demonstrate your ability and readiness to deliver to the “What You Will Do” responsibilities of a Senior Advisor, within the context of large-scale/multi-phased revitalization(s), in urban/land use/real-estate planning, development, or infrastructure project delivery. Complementary to this, we’d also like to understand your areas of specialization, as they may correlate with our primary workstreams within Landmark Projects (LP), Social Purpose Projects (SPP) and Transit Oriented Communities (TOC) to find innovative and commercially feasible solutions to high profile and complex real-estate transactions.

Landmark Projects (LP):

  • Experience working within an environment that leverages unique and under-utilized public land and buildings (such as Ontario Place, The Ontario Science Centre, or other national or international destinations), to create a more sustainable future, is an asset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a larger multi-disciplinary, inter-departmental team and proven ability manage, co-ordinate and track diverse project-based teams
  • An understanding of land use planning processes and experience with large-scale, multi-phased revitalization projects is required.

Social Purpose Projects (SPP):

  • Ability to work collaboratively and support projects and transactions for government social purpose projects including community development, housing solutions, long-term care facilities, healthcare revitalization and recreational development.
  • Experience working in land development, not-for-profit housing, healthcare and other community development initiatives.

Transit Oriented Communities (TOC):

  • Exposure to real-estate deal environment(s) for mixed use-commercial/retail/residential densification, and infrastructure development
  • Project management of the interface between infrastructure projects larger revitalization and development along major transit or transportation regions

  • A convenient, central location at 1 Dundas St West, easily accessible by public transit
  • A flexible, hybrid work approach that allows colleagues to find balance between their professional and personal lives and making the most of the benefits of working remotely and purpose-driven in-person collaboration opportunities
  • Access to our Healthcare Spending Account to top up expenses not covered in the benefits program and a Lifestyle Account that expands the eligibility of health and wellness options and can include coverage for gym memberships and fitness equipment, nutrition counselling or financial planning
  • A pregnancy and parental leave program that offers expecting, eligible employees a top-up to 93% of their annual base salary for 31 weeks, and our parental leave program offers eligible employees a top-up to 93% of their annual base salary for 15 weeks
