Role Overview

Reporting to the Executive Director, Government Affairs, Advocacy and Policy, the Project Manager, Convening Project with PHAC will support and execute on the key strategies, communications plans and the overall workplan to support the Sustaining Momentum to Implement the Diabetes Framework (SMIDF) project. The Project Manager will lead the team to bring together leaders in the field of diabetes from all sectors of Canada to share emerging practices, principles and create a shared accountability matrix that will enable concrete adaption of successful models.

The Project Manager, in conjunction with a 3rd party pollster, will strategically create polling data and share public opinion research, through focus groups and networks thus building momentum for implementation of the Framework principles. The Project Manager will help build and leverage DC’s relationships with a wide range of stakeholders to thoughtfully advance the convening project name priorities. The Project Manager will recruit a diverse group (public, private, NGO, health system, equity seeking communities and business leaders) of members to create a multi-sectoral table. This table will advance conversations on and implementation of the Framework for Diabetes in Canada.

Location:

This role can be fully remote with the expectation of occasional travel to attend conferences and in-person meetings. Accepting applicants across Canada, need to be onsite and necessary to travel.

This Role Includes, But Not Limited To

• Review the Diabetes Canada Clinical Practice Guideline’s and identification of relevant Chapters to support the work of the multi-sectoral table.
• Help manage emerging issues from organized roundtables, events or multisectoral meetings; including writing briefings, drafting recommendations, and providing strategic advice to the multisectoral table and DC leadership team.
• Serve as project management lead on key initiatives, including scheduling meetings/roundtables, managing key initiative timelines, expectations, and deliverables relating to project.
• Adhere to the approved month by month overview of project activities to ensure key PHAC funding requirements are met consistently, on time and on budget.
• Quarterly and Annual reconciliations with/to PHAC, including multi-sectoral table Governance review.
• Research, analyze, and track local, provincial, and federal government initiatives related to the Framework and maintain a tracking tool of on-going efforts and scorecard of effectiveness related to Project.
• Prioritize secondary research on existing diabetes (all types) interventions, successes, and gaps across Canada through a SDoH equity lens.
• Promote Project to selected media – mainstream and social/digital – for awareness, amplification in collaboration with MarCom & GAAP Team.

The Ideal Candidate Possesses

• Strong negotiation skills, and relationship management capabilities.
• Ability to plan, prioritize, execute and follow up in a timely manner while anticipating issues and roadblocks.
• Relevant experience interacting with high-level policymakers and key opinion leaders, and cross-functional business leaders and executives.
• 3-5+ years of external affairs experience, including public affairs, advocacy, and government relations, ideally provincial/territorial or federally focused.
• Demonstrated issues management experience relating to a highly regulated sector(s), including pharmaceutical or life sciences, is strongly preferred.
• Strong written and oral communications skills, including the ability to prepare and present topics to larger audience.
• Possess highly developed analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Knowledge of and demonstrated success with both legislative and department-level (public service/agencies) advocacy.
