Overview:
Reporting to the General Manager of Concrete Products, the Operations Manager will be responsible for all aspects of the operations including plant manufacturing for the precast product line within the Manitoba & Saskatchewan region. A renewed focus on health and safety initiatives, safe work practices and establishing a strong safety culture will be a priority in the position. As a key member of the management team, the role will effectively manage performance plans, continuous improvement strategies, plant equipment, cost savings and KPI targets while ensuring projects are completed safely, on budget and within specification to ensure high customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
- Supervises daily production schedule requirements within the plant and liaises with sales and project management teams to forecast future production requirements.
- Ensures established processes are followed, employee accountability is clear, and communication channels are fully utilized with and across departments.
- Fosters a positive workplace culture where employees are recognized for their individual and collective contributions, and treat one another with respect.
- Establishes effective and cooperative working relationships with Lafarge key stakeholders
- Monitors monthly financials and key performance indicators to assess financial performance, and to determine whether performance changes are needed to ensure production efficiencies.
- Provides active leadership for all health, safety and environmental best practices to ensure personnel are actively seeking out real time solutions to identified risks.
- Monitoring and enforcement of safety policies and by actively demonstrating support for organizational safety initiatives. Ensures safety is a top priority and communication loops closed.
- Actively participates in and contributes with industry associations to develop, promote and implement leading best practices.
- Provides constructive feedback and seeks out new ideas for enhancing the safety culture.
- Ensures the proper planning of production using the 2-year live schedule, locking in work each week and tracking variances with plans to prevent future misses.
- Actively liaises with union representatives to effectively manage grievances.
- Takes a primary role in coaching, training and developing key operations personnel.
- Leads daily operations meetings with supervisors and maintenance teams.
- Responsible for all aspects of the production facilities, including inventory control, raw material pricing, staffing levels, cost control, and financial performance including margin contribution.
- Oversees and directs all plant process improvement strategies and capital projects to optimize production capabilities, including the planning and execution of capex projects.
- Assists in developing goals and strategic plans, taking into account market conditions and trends, competitive environment and available resources.
- Oversees the hiring, performance management and progressive discipline processes.
- Develops and maintains key relationships with industry officials, city inspectors, suppliers and customers.
- Engages with employees to discuss workplace/job specific hazards and strategies for minimizing risk.
Qualifications:
Education & Work Experience
- Minimum of ten (10) years related operations experience in the manufacturing, construction and/or concrete products industry.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration or a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management or related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong computer skills (MS Office, SAP and AutoCAD)
- Adept at making decisions in a timely manner, sometimes with incomplete data and under tight deadlines and pressure.
- Skilled multi-tasker, capable of balancing shifting priorities to meet deadlines.
- Solutions oriented, critical thinker, committed to meeting internal and external customer expectations.
- Ability to influence and drive positive change beyond immediate scope of control.
- Ability to motivate others and provide complete, direct and actionable feedback.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams to successfully achieve results through mentorship and guidance of multi-faceted production teams.
- Proven experience successfully implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
- Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
- Collaborative self-starter with excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
