The Thunder Bay, ON office is looking for a results-driven, hardworking and goal-oriented Mechanical and Piping Estimator to join the team.

Summary Of The Role

Responsible for the pre-construction phase of a project including the ability to price, administer, negotiate and analyze the various stages of construction

Key Responsibilities

• Ensures responsibilities and accountabilities are carried out in a safe manner in accordance with E.S. Fox Limited Environmental Health and Safety Management Program and OHSA requirements.
• Assembles estimate and pricing and review with Estimating Manager including:
• Understanding for TSSA requirements and regulations for projects and related costs
• Organization charts and resumes
• Maintain knowledge of applicable ASME codes, contract laws and obligations, material specifications, scheduling and regional variations affecting the supply of labour, materials and modern construction methods
• Project initiation activities
• Tender negotiations
• Indirect labour requirements
• Bonding and insurance requirements
• Tender breakdown requirements
• Construction equipment requirements
• Tender review meeting
• Coordinates of tender proposal requirements, including:
• Prepares material takeoff
• Ensures that environmental aspects within their sphere of responsibility are adhered to pursuant to ISO 14001 requirements.
• Craft rates and mark-ups for additional work
• May need to prepare Scope of Work
• Labour efficiencies and productivity related issues
• Maintains up to date knowledge and awareness of current market conditions affecting the cost of construction
• Assesses cost of rentals, tools, equipment, non-productive labour and determine average labour rate
• Assembles pricing
• Maintains knowledge of applicable ASME codes, contract laws and obligations, material specifications, scheduling and regional variations affecting the supply of labour, materials and modern construction methods
• Attends kick off meeting as required
• Review of terms and conditions
• Preliminary schedules
• Participates in post tender activities, such as:
• Overhead and profit levels
• Reviews bid packages to determine resources required to complete request for quotation
• Review bid documents and determine which subcontractors need to be involved in the completion of the bid
• Coordination of sales effort and follow up
• Prepares detailed bid packages for applicable trades and subcontractors for their use in preparing supporting quotations
• Coordinates estimate between trades involved, ensuring tender scope is being fully accounted for in the most cost efficient manner
• Company experience

Knowledge And Education Requirements

• E.T. designation is an asset.
• Construction Estimator Certified or enrolled in the Gold Seal Estimator Certification program (C.C.A.) and/or
• Completion of a College Diploma in a Technical Discipline, or, equivalent Construction Industry experience.
• Knowledge of multi-trade disciplines
• Completion of Required courses through the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors

Specific Experience And Skills

• 5 years' experience in Piping Estimating within Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional Industries
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, Microsoft Project
• Scheduling experience
• Experience utilizing computer software programs to complete estimates.
