Mechanical Designer

We are a local company but with global activities and partnerships. We operate in the Diagnostic Hearing business as one of four business areas within the Danish Demant Group. The entire group consists of more than 20,000 employees worldwide. Audioscan operates as an independent entity in Canada, with our own R&D, Production, Purchasing, Marketing and Support activities.
You will operate out of Dorchester at Audioscan which is one of our many global diagnostic brands. The other brands are placed in Denmark, UK, USA, and Germany. We sell our equipment in more than 100 countries through our own sales companies and external distributors.
We are seeking a talented Mechanical Designer to join our team. This position will play a significant role in designing and creating the next generation of innovative Audioscan products. You will design and develop the electro-mechanical packaging for new products, with a strong emphasis on user centered design principles and design for manufacturing principles. You must be an independent and self-motivated worker requiring little supervision. This is a full-time position, operating on-site in Dorchester, Ontario. You will report to the Director of Research and Development.
Responsibilities:
- Adaptive and variant design of electro-mechanical packaging for new products.
- Collaborate with a team of knowledgeable industry experts on the overall design and user interface.
- Staying current with technology in applicable disciplines.
- Development of documentation to comply with development procedures, ISO, FDA, and other regulatory quality system requirements.
- Development of CAD models.
- Provide product cost and development time estimates.
- Ownership of project’s mechanical design from concept to release. This work will include analysis, design, prototyping, testing, production transfer, and post-launch support.
- Generate detailed drawings, BOM's, and inspection test plans.
- Collaborate with suppliers for part selection, pricing, and prototyping. This may include travel to supplier facilities as needed.
- Design tests and build prototypes to test their function.
Experience and qualities:
- Creativity and desire to solve problems in a niche industry.
- You must have experience developing injection molded parts.
- 5+ years of related industry experience
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects.
- Effective communication and organizational skills, with an attention for detail.
- Proficient with CAD tools, experience with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD is beneficial.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
Educational Requirements
B.Eng/BASc/BESc or college degree in mechanical design or industrial design.
