Job Description

On behalf of our esteemed client, a national general contractor in ICI and residential construction, MatchBox Consulting Group is searching for a Senior Estimator living in the GTA.

Opportunity Summary:

As an Estimator, you will report to the Estimating Director and be part of a collaborative and dynamic team. This role provides an opportunity to build on your experience in a supportive environment.


Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Identify and recommend the best trades for each project
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, the public, and project teams
  • Review quotes in detail and make recommendations for award
  • Stay updated on current market trends to maintain a competitive advantage and develop effective bid strategies
  • Issue tender packages and create scopes of work
  • Collaborate with Superintendents and project teams to develop and monitor project schedules
  • Perform quantity take-offs from tender drawings
  • Negotiate and issue subcontracts and major purchase orders, monitoring their progress and schedule
  • Develop risk management strategies for schedules and budgets
  • Consult with Project Managers regarding general requirements, construction methodology, and schedules during the Tender/Pre-Construction process
  • Interpret documentation, specifications, and design drawings to define scope and contents of estimates
  • Participate in hard tender closings

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in building technology, construction management, or quantity surveying
  • Familiarity with drawing reviews, contract administration, document management, scheduling software, and change order procedures
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in estimating work for a General Contractor/Construction Manager, ideally working on projects ranging from $100,000 to $50 million in spend
  • Knowledge of bid preparation principles, including quantity take-off procedures, sub-trade procurement, pricing, and bid closing procedures
  • Excellent organizational, time management, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Experience in estimating commercial, multi-family residential, and institutional buildings
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project (experience with Procore is considered an asset)
  • Demonstrated integrity in dealings with clients, trades, and consultants
