The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Cost Accounting, the Senior Cost Accountant manages costs and inventory reporting for all Canopy Growth’s cannabis operations. This individual is responsible for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. The ideal candidate would have at least five years' experience, strong analytical skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for month-end and year-end closing, including preparation of inventory adjustments, reconciliations, and departmental allocations
• Support ERP implementation projects, as required
• Analysis of standard versus actual costs to identify variances, including regular analysis of production variances, material variances, standard production activity rates and overhead allocation rates
• Monthly spend analysis and close processing
• Support operations leads with general finance questions
• Inventory valuations,
• Budget variance review to support site leads
• Identify and recommend cost-effective solutions
• Collect, summarize, and analyze key inputs and assumptions in the costing of inventory and assist in the standard costing development and process to roll standards
• Support operations with physical inventory counts, as required
• Other duties as assigned
• Regular review of inventory records to ensure accuracy, perform analysis to reconcile any differences

Experience

• Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of the organization
• Strong work ethic and proven ability to meet deadlines
• 5+ years’ experience as a Cost Accountant or Cost Analyst
• ERP experience an asset
• Flexible and able to prioritize tasks
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• Advanced Excel, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Obtained or in the process of pursuing accounting designation (CMA track an asset)
• Public company experience an asset
