Senior Staff Accountant Jobs

Barrier Ridge Capital (“BRC”) is a unique privately owned Canadian private equity firm with a different approach. BRC utilizes its success in a variety of operating companies to view and manage private equity and real estate investment opportunities through an entrepreneur’s lens.

We are looking for a Senior Staff Accountant to join our team in our Aurora office (by the GO station). Reporting to the Controller, this position will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day accounting, and to help with the growth and sustainability of the business.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly journal entries and perform account reconciliations
• Prepare audit documents for both internal and external audits
• Provide analysis on actual to budget
• Assist in monthly bank reporting tasks within assigned deadlines
• Assist with the preparation of financial and operational reports
• Lead other accounting team members
• Support with gathering, analyzing, and interpreting financial information
• Assist with bookkeeping in various companies in respective ERP systems to properly account for the financial activities
• Maintain consistency of adherence to accounting policies and goals, and suggest changes/improvements, where appropriate
• Performing bank reconciliation procedures
• Assist in preparation of financial statements of various companies
• Assist in the development and maintenance of procedures and systems
• Ad hoc projects and duties, as needed
• Prepare and file sales tax returns

Qualifications

• Knowledge of ASPE standards
• A CPA designation, or almost completed CPA designation
• Keen on taking initiatives and having proactive attitude
• Strong knowledge of the Microsoft 365 environment including Excel
• Strong sense of responsibility and be able to work independently
• Minimum of 5 years’ previous accounting experience at a similar level
• Team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Multi-company experience
• Ability to work with multiple projects having deadlines
• Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills
