Our client is hiring a Senior Accountant or Accountant (depending on experience) for a publicly traded company incorporated under the laws of the Province of Ontario, with investment interests in resource, manufacturing and technology sectors. The company is focused on making strategic investments in, and supporting the management initiatives of, selected businesses.
Reporting to the Manager, Finance and indirectly to the Director, Finance, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the accounting for various entities within the group. This includes preparing journal entries, monthly balance sheet reconciliations, income statement analysis, year-end audit working papers, review of subsidiary reporting packages, and assisting with the preparation of consolidated financial reporting on a quarterly and annual basis.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Completing month end tasks including, Prepaids, AP and AR reconciliation, bank reconciliations, accruals, revenue recognition, journal entries, and monthly reporting;
- Detailed preparation of consolidated account reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts, including assisting with the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reporting as required;
- Detailed review and posting of monthly investment activity and reconciliation of broker statements on a daily/weekly basis;
- Analyze and interpret balance sheets and income statements, and provide financial/management reports as requested;
Maintain General Ledger, including:
- Make adjustments where needed;
- Analyze general ledger;
- Post journal entries;
- Prepare a full set of audit lead sheets and working papers for monthly reporting to assist auditors complete quarterly/year-end reviews/audits and tax return preparation;
- Completion of monthly bank reconciliations;
- Work with subsidiary accounting personnel to understand their records and ensure the completeness and accuracy of their work;
- Other tasks assigned by the Finance Manager or Director, Finance, as required.
- Completion of HST reconciliations and returns;
- Prepare monthly payroll and assist with monthly and quarterly WSIB filings for the various entities;
- Assist with the preparation of necessary backup for audit purposes;
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable invoices;
Requirements
- Experience in the capital markets industry and QuickBooks Online and CaseWare is considered an asset.
- Thorough understanding of accounting principles;
- 3+ years of accounting experience is preferred;
- University Degree in Finance/Accounting and either has obtained or is in the process of obtaining a professional accounting designation (CPA);
- Detail-oriented, self-directed, resourceful, analytical thinker who is able to deliver results in a deadline-driven environment;
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;
