Job Title: Manufacturing Research Assistant
Location: In-person at McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute
Hamilton, ON
Contract: Part-time starting Sept./Oct. 2023
(Potential to transition to full-time co-op in Jan. 2024)

Job Summary
ImaginAble Solutions is looking to hire a Manufacturing Research Assistant with a keen eye for detail and problem solving skills. The role involves assembling and packaging our Guided Hands™ device, managing materials and inventory, ensuring product quality, and overseeing the operation and troubleshooting of our 3D printers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- 3D Printer Management: Operate and troubleshoot Creality Ender V2 3D printers.
- Assembly and Packaging: Collaborate with the manufacturing team to assemble Guided Hands™ units according to specifications and quality standards.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct regular quality checks on the assembled devices, ensuring they meet the company's standards and are free from defects.
- Reporting: Provide regular updates on inventory levels, production rates, and any challenges faced during the assembly process. Maintain accurate documentation of manufacturing processes, including assembly instructions and testing procedures.
- Materials & Inventory Management: Order and manage inventory of all materials used in the production process.
- Research & Development: Actively research new materials and manufacturing methods to reduce production costs and scale manufacturing. Collaborate with the engineering team at McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute to improve the design and manufacturability of Guided Hands™ using Solidworks and Autodesk Inventor.
Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge
- Innovative, self-directed and takes initiative with minimal instructions.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Proactive in identifying problems and finding solutions.
- Proficient in 3D modelling with Solidworks and Autodek Inventor.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Currently enrolled in Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- Familiarity with 3D printing technology and troubleshooting techniques.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly.
- Strong written skills for producing, managing, and organizing clear reports and records.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
