Job Description
  • Work Alongside Senior Leadership.|Influence the Finance Department.
About Our Client
Our client is a leading privately owned food manufacturer located in Etobicoke. They are looking for an experienced Controller to join their leadership team, and play an integral part in influencing the Finance Department. The Controller will report to the CFO, and provide leadership to the finance team, and other departments to ensure all accounting policies are adhered to.

Responsible for: Full-cycle accounting, financial statements, audit, tax & controls
Accounts Payable
  • Provide leadership, training, and direction for the A/P process and ensures the timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices, expense reports and other cash disbursements.
  • Utilize external resources to enhance the Purchasing Module in ERP system for efficient A/P processing and the continuous improvement of A/P reporting.
  • Supervise and approves weekly cheque/EFT run.
  • Ensure A/P processes are consistent with the overall strategic goals of the organization by enhancing internal controls and cash management capabilities.
  • Manage bank balances daily.
  • Improve the DPO metric by proactively managing supplier payment terms and aging reports.
Accounts Receivable, Credit and Collections
  • Utilize external resources to enhance receivables function to ensure efficient A/R processing and the continuous improvement of A/R reporting.
  • Provide reports and information to management on the status of receivables.
  • Ensure member refunds are recorded and paid in a timely manner.
  • Provide leadership, training, and direction for the A/R process and ensures timely invoicing and collection of outstanding receivables.
  • Prepare email blasts for invoicing and monthly statements.
  • Develop key performance metrics such as DSCO, AR aging with which to measure efficiency.
Accounting Audit, Policies and Process Improvements
  • Identify areas within Accounting for process improvements and implement process and policy changes where necessary.
  • Ensures month-end balance sheet reconciliations and analysis are prepared in a timely manner and provides the necessary internal controls for both Management and External Audit purposes.
  • Lead the development and update of all process documentation including Month-end, AR, AP, Inventory Valuation Adjustment and FX translation.
Leadership & People Management
  • Coach, mentor and develop the Accounting team on best practices to drive efficiency and improvement.
  • Balance team workload to ensure work-life balance.
  • Strive to build a sense of ownership and accountability within the team.
  • Provide team with guidance on handling difficult or complex problems and in resolving difficult processes.
  • Motivate and encourage team with positive reinforcement and support.

The Successful Applicant
  • CPA/CA designation required.
  • Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required.
  • Minimum of 8 years progressive experience in General Accounting.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership and motivation skills.
  • Experience in food industry or manufacturing preferred.
  • A passion for food.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
