TI Corp is a Crown Corporation that has a mandate to deliver $13.3 Billion in major infrastructure on behalf of the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport.
Overview
This position is responsible for managing the IT hosting infrastructure: servers, storage devices, network connections, and the related utilization of the BC Government’s corporate hosting services to ensure availability and security of the supported business applications.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensures the availability and integrity of all TI Corp physical/virtual server infrastructure:
• Procured from & managed by the BC Government’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO).
• Supporting SaaS Platforms utilized by TI Corp and interoperating with OCIO hosting & network services such as user/system service authentication, SMTP, OCIO network firewalls, etc.
• Procured & managed solely by TI Corp independently of the OCIO and operating on the OCIO network.
- Manages server SSL certificates, server user and service accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best practices.
- Participates in the planning and implementation of best practice policies and procedures to support TI Corp.
- Manages vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to acquire server software products and services.
- Works with hosting and network service providers to assist support activities for OCIO and SaaS vendor-managed hosting infrastructure.
- Practices server asset management, including maintenance of server component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
- Anticipates, mitigates, identifies, troubleshoots, and corrects hardware and software issues on servers and escalate incidents as necessary.
- Ensures SaaS Platform integration with OCIO hosting & network services such as user/system service authentication, SMTP, OCIO network firewalls, etc.
- Ensures the security of the server infrastructure by implementing industry best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
- Manages the physical environment of TI Corp’s non-OCIO managed physical server racks including cable management, documentation, labeling, and configuration of KVM switching for console and remote access.
- Requests, reviews, and approves implementation of and updates to OCIO firewall policies with respect to application firewall rules.
- Develops procedures, programs, and documentation for backup and restoration of host operating systems and host-based applications. Performs and tests routine system backups and restores.
- Oversees the OCIO-managed and TI Corp-managed server operating systems and hardware upgrades, patches, and reconfigurations.
- Monitors the health of TI Corp’s SaaS platform hosting infrastructure in collaboration with SaaS vendor technical support staff.
- Builds, deploys, and manages new non-OCIO managed servers and appliances for TI Corp as needed.
- Oversees server middleware and server software installations, upgrades, patches and reconfigurations.
- Procures, provisions, manages and maintains physical/virtual server and storage systems including monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance, and repair.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge, keep current with technological developments in server administration technology, and recommends ways to take advantage of new technology.
Qualifications
- Proficiency with MS Windows Server operating systems.
- Experience in change and release management in an enterprise environment.
- Experience with firewall policy management in an enterprise environment
- Proficiency with MS SQL Server and MS SQL Cluster initialization, configuration, and management.
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in computer science field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong teamwork skills: support, collaboration, inspiration, motivation, and respectfulness.
- Proficiency in segmenting complex processes, challenges, and opportunities into smaller work units.
- Strong time management skills.
- Working knowledge of domain controller configuration and group policy.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with how Technology Services are ordered from and delivered by the Provincial Government’s Office of the Chief Information Officer is preferred.
