The Ministry of Land, Water and Resource Stewardship is accountable for integrated land and natural resource management and advancing reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, including objective setting for land and marine environments, effectively managing cumulative effects, environmental sustainability, and economic growth.

The Land and Resource Coordinator for cumulative effects will work with diverse project teams of multidisciplinary specialists across multiple agencies and is responsible for advancing cumulative effects modelling to support collaborative stewardship in the Thompson Okanagan region. This position will also be a resource on how to effectively use geospatial tools, cartographic and data management to inform and advance land use planning, cumulative effects and collaborative stewardship with First Nations, stakeholders and the general public.

This position also provides specialist advice related to modeling, geospatial tools, and cumulative effects to senior ministry decision makers, and to technical and professional staff in the ministry, sector or industry.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Experience using technical knowledge and analytical skills with geospatial tools (e.g. GIS, relational databases, remote sensing, or related technologies).
• Diploma in a geomatics/GIS, geography, related resource management field (e.g., forestry, geography, agrology, environmental science) with a minimum of 4 years of experience*; OR
• Undergraduate degree in a geomatics/GIS, geography, related resource management field (e.g., forestry, geography, agrology, environmental science) with a minimum of 2 years experience*; OR
• Experience working on land and resource management issues.
• Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a fully licensed professional with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area (i.e. Association of Forest Professionals, Institute of Agrologists, Engineers and Geoscientists BC (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia)).
• Experience with scripting and custom geospatial data modelling.
• Experience must include all of the following (minimum years required are as noted above for each related experience statement):

Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

• Experience with the programming language "R".
• Experience working across multiple agencies in a collaborative model to solve complex issues
• Experience with online geospatial data visualization tools (e.g. R Shiny, ArcGIS Online/Portal/Hub)
• Experience working with First Nations, including data sharing, building capacity, and developing collaborative solutions

Willingness Statements

• To take in-house training and certification as required.
• To have or be able to obtain a valid B.C. Class 5 driver's licence.
• To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
• To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
