The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is the Province of BC's primary emergency response organization. It operates year-round to deliver its mandate for wildfire management and response to natural hazard emergencies. The BCWS operates provincially, delivering services through six fire centres, thirty-three zones and two provincial centres in Kamloops and Victoria.

This position is responsible for providing technical advice and operational training for the Fire Centre to ensure BCWS chainsaw program continues to meet the branch's safety and business goals.

Job Requirements

• Grade 12 and an equivalent combination of education, training and 4 years recent related experience
• Technical diploma or degree in a field related to forestry or resource management, and 2 years recent related experience; or
• Qualified Faller Trainer (QFT), or eligible to become one within 6 months

Preference statement(s)

• Preference may be given to candidates who have achieved a 90% mark on the BC faller field evaluation through the BC faller standard or ENFORM.
• Preference may be given to candidates who have IC5, Strike Team Leader or equivalent fireline certification.
• Preference may be given to candidates who have completed the Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) and have related instructional experience.
• Preference may be given to candidates with a current Qualified Supervisor Trainer (QST) certification.
• Preference may be given to candidates with BC faller or ENFORM faller certification.
• Preference may be given to candidates who have completed the BC Forest Safety Council - Faller Supervisor training.

Provisos /Willingness statement(s)

• To keep current on emerging issues
• To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required
• To take in-house training and certification as required
• To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan
• To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions
• To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required
• To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures
• To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned

About This Position

2 Positions available. 1 position is permanent full time and 1 position is temporary. Both positions are located in Smithers.

Smithers: Smithers is filled with activities like fishing, boating, camping, hiking, skiing, and shopping. The Wet'suwet'en people are very close with the community, and have introduced many traditions. This quaint town with a friendly atmosphere is a wonderful place to live and visit.

This position has full time on-site requirements.
