Public Health Resource Nurse Jobs

Knowledge of communicable disease control practices and procedures including prevention, promotion, reporting responsibilities and related procedures and immunization practices

Knowledge of principles of health education, health promotion, and social determinants of health.

Demonstrated knowledge of facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution techniques, and demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.

Ability to successfully complete relevant VCH required education.

Working knowledge of public health and population health approaches.

Comprehensive knowledge of the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) Professional and Practice standards for nursing.

Experience using technical knowledge and analytical skills with geospatial tools (e.g. GIS, relational databases, remote sensing, or related technologies).

Experience working on land and resource management issues.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience must include all of the following (minimum years required are as noted above for each related experience statement):

Experience with scripting and custom geospatial data modelling.

Experience working across multiple agencies in a collaborative model to solve complex issues

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

Introduction to Public Health in Canada (Skills Enhancement for Public Health)

Introduction to Literature Searching (Skills Enhancement for Public Health)

Knowledge of the Public Health Act

Minimum two (2) years experience utilizing Parent Survey Training

Knowledge of Baby Friendly initiative, including completion of relevant breastfeeding course(s).

Demonstrated facilitation, mediation and conflict resolution skills.

Demonstrated ability to participate in the development and delivery of educational materials based on education theories and best practices.

Recent combined mother-baby care and/or recent Labour & Delivery and/or LDRP and/or neonatal and/or Antepartum nursing experience required.

Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing education program required.

Nurses currently working on A6 Antepartum/Gyne will be deemed qualified due to the antepartum on that unit.

Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.

Annual BLS Level C Registration/Re-Registration is required.

One (1) year recent, related acute medical/surgical experience.

Demonstrated skill in peripheral IV insertion and maintenance, TPN/enteral nutrition and/or care of various tubes/drains.

Bachelor's degree in health sciences, humanities or social sciences and at least five years' experience in the community sector; OR

Master's degree in public health or community health or graduate studies in health promotion and at least three years' experience;

Commitment to take BLS (basic life support) training and maintain certification;

Assists with planning and organization of various meetings as requested by management team

Collects data, performs data entry and transcribes records as required using an Electronic Medical Recor (EMR)

A skills test will be required as part of the interview process**

Extensive experience in electronic communication (including but not limited to) Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Outlook required

Demonstrated experience with electronic medical records required (successful candidates will be provided Panorama training)

Minimum two (2) years' experience in a health care setting required; experience working in a multi-disciplinary teams.

Demonstrated good working knowledge of health engineering aspects of water supply, waste disposal and swimming pools.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills for a variety of audiences, and demonstrated public speaking ability.

Demonstrated knowledge of applicable computer software applications.

Be responsible for protecting the public’s health and safety through the application of Public Health Engineering practice.

Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes that support natural resource management.

Experience in negotiating/mediating solutions in natural resource management.

Experience working on projects with First Nations.

Degree, diploma, or equivalent in a natural resource field.

Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence or equivalent.

CPR level C and/or Code Management.
