It Business Analyst (3 To 5 Months Part-Time Contract)

The Alberta Securities Commission is the industry-funded regulator responsible for administering the province's securities laws. It is entrusted with fostering a fair and efficient capital market in Alberta and with protecting investors. As a member of the Canadian Securities Administrators, the ASC works to improve, coordinate and harmonize the regulation of Canada's capital markets.

The Information Technology (IT) team is responsible for making sure that the organization has the appropriate resources necessary to ensure the consistent, reliable and secure delivery of services, as well as to understanding the unique challenges of our business entities to anticipate their technology requirements.

This role is a temporary part-time contract position (three days a week) for 3 to 5 months . Acting as an advocate for business stakeholders, this role focuses on leveraging Microsoft Dynamics CRM to meet real world challenges. Although expert knowledge of CRM is a key requirement, the role extends beyond CRM, combining the attributes of business relationship management, business analysis and project management to deliver innovative, functional solutions tailored to the unique needs of the ASC.

• Leveraging the ASC’s primary line-of-business system, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, to automate and optimize business processes by designing and implementing new entities, custom fields, Word/Excel templates, forms, reports, dashboards, workflows and alerts.
• Working with a range of knowledgeable stakeholders to elicit requirements, analyze processes and workflows, and produce detailed specifications.
• The ability to communicate clearly, negotiate, listen, mitigate conflict, facilitate, build alliances and achieve desired results using strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
• Developing training plans and materials and present training to stakeholders, as required.
• Participating in development and system integration testing efforts including creating test plans and test cases. Managing user acceptance testing (UAT).
• Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with business and IT stakeholders. Acting as a primary liaison between the IT team and the business.
• Knowledge of the financial services industry is desirable.
• Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
• Planning and managing project roll-out and implementation activities, including organizational change management, communications and project close-out.
• At least eight years of IT work experience with a minimum of five years in a Business Analysis role.
• Guiding and assisting the ASC’s developers to further extend CRM’s capabilities using plug-ins and custom code to meet businesses requirements.
• Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) credentials or other recognised Business Analysis certification/accreditation.
• At least three years of expert level experience working with Microsoft Dynamics CRM (v2018/365 preferred) in an administrative capacity. This is primarily an non-technical role – programming ability is not required. However experience with CRM custom plug-ins, JavaScript, web parts, SQL and/or SSRS reports is considered an asset.
• Developing an understanding of the processes, plans, objectives, drivers, policies, regulations, culture and issues related to IT’s business partners at the ASC.
• A post-secondary diploma or degree in Business, or in an IT field.
• Developing business cases.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, or equivalent, is an asset.
• Unearthing new technology solutions to address business problems, evaluating commercial, off-the-shelf (COTS) software.
• Using business analysis skills and ASC systems/process knowledge to contribute to the SEDAR+ project, a new national system currently under development for securities regulators across Canada to support the capital markets.
• An understanding of development methodology, change management and the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Providing expertise and second level support of CRM, working directly with users and developers to troubleshooting issues.
• Effectively documenting current and desired business processes.
• Leveraging project management methodologies and best practices to ensure IT projects deliver results in scope and on time. Developing detailed work plans, project schedules and estimates, and successfully managing project changes, risks, issues and actions.
