Your new company

Hays Specialist Recruitment has partnered with a leading American subsidiary of global insurance and reinsurance company. We are looking to hire a Human Resource Business Partner to join their team on a contractual basis of 12 months, which has the possibility of extension. This candidate will be working out of their Toronto office on a hybrid basis.


Your new role

  • Advising managers on all employee issues including contractual changes, disciplinary matters and long-term leave (e.g. maternity leave, sickness, etc.) to ensure a fair and consistent approach within parameters of legal obligations and corporate/local policies.
  • Cultivating effective working relationships with business management teams by advising business leaders on people-management and employee relations issues, training and development, in alignment with HR initiatives
  • Local benefits administration.
  • Being a strategic advisor and thought partner for the Canadian Leadership Team
  • Supporting managers and employees on the annual performance management process and on sustaining performance management activities throughout the year.
  • Supporting managers in the sourcing, selection and hiring of world-class talent. May include helping to manage the headcount approval process, advising on resourcing strategies and immigration matters, liaising with and managing third party recruitment, interviewing candidates, designing compensation packages and negotiating offers. All of this will be done in close partnership with the internal Talent Acquisition team.
  • Partnering with the Compensation team to advise managers on salary, long term incentives and promotions.
  • Act as the local point of contact for annual the organizations HR programs (and other initiatives as necessary), including Performance Management, Compensation Planning, Talent Review and functional review.
  • The HRBP position is generalist in nature. This role will have specific responsibility for day to day, on the ground, local Canada HR advisory and support
  • Proactively developing, recommending and implementing HR strategic and tactical plans to support business goals, specifically with regard to staffing, retention, training, learning and development, immigration and employee relations.
  • The role will be a Canada regional HR subject matter expert for all local regulations and employment matters and will provide first level support to any employee queries.
  • Managing and/or contributing to local projects and strategic initiatives both in support of the Head of HR and as part of the HR network, as required.


What you'll need to succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or a related field required.
  • Keen customer focus with a willingness to ensure that the customer perspective is a driving force behind decisions and activities.
  • Proven local Canada HR employment and generalist skills, preferably in the Insurance Industry.
  • Excellent proactive organization skills and ability to plan and prioritize work.
  • Prior experience with generating and analyzing HR metrics to drive business results; reliable business acumen.
  • Solid HR foundational skills in talent acquisition, talent development, compensation, employee relations and workforce planning.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication, presentation, facilitation and influence management skills in order to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
