Job Description
Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate will be working at our head office location in Ottawa - 1800 Alta Vista Drive, with a mixture of on and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement is subject to change, based on operational needs.

About The Role


Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary full-time Human Resources, Business Partner to join our dynamic Employee Relations team.


In this role you will be responsible for employee and labour relations. You will be required to have a strong degree of autonomy and independent decision making, with a supportive team of peers and experts to draw upon in the region and at a national level. You will partner with regional business managers to help them succeed; and advise/consult.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Disability management
  • Collective bargaining
  • Culture change - Helping teams change their mindset and behaviors
  • Employee engagement
  • Employee/Labour relations including interpretation of Non-Union Terms & Conditions of Employment and Collective Agreement interpretation for multiple unions
  • Performance management
  • Assess Leadership capability and coach to close gaps
  • Participating in the development and delivery of Human Resources operational and strategic goals
  • Team effectiveness


Education, Training and Experience:


  • A minimum of five years of related experience in an operational and strategic Human Resources role within a unionized environment
  • Certified Human Resources Leader (CPHR) designation is an asset
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
  • Ideally experience in a manufacturing, supply chain and continuous improvement culture
  • Completion of a university degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Behavioral Sciences or a related field


Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English are essential
  • Thorough understanding of HR best practices, talent management concepts and strategic programs as well as related legislative requirements
  • Demonstrated expertise in labour relations
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers at all levels
  • Ability to coach employees and managers through difficult situations and facilitate conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated consulting skills with strong planning and execution capabilities
  • Strong business acumen
  • Effective interpersonal skills along with proven ability to exercise sound judgment, tact and discretion
