Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Employee Relations, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing advice and guidance to managers and supervisors on the consistent application and interpretation of Human Resources policies, procedures, employment/labour legislation and collective agreements. The successful candidate will also provide expertise and support to managers and supervisors in the effective resolution of workplace disputes.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support workplace investigations in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Policy.
  • Make pragmatic recommendations through integrated HR Management practices ensuring both Policy and Legislative compliance and business needs are met.
  • Work closely with Legal Counsel to represent the City's interests in mediation, arbitration and at tribunals.
  • Ensure compliance with labour and employment legislation/regulations
  • Work as a trusted advisor who contributes to discussions and influences decision making when advising leadership on HR issues
  • Make informed recommendations to decision makers on complex employee and labour relations issues.
  • Work as a strategic partner with Management to resolve workplace issues and grievances.
  • Undertake various research projects to support policy and process development
  • Participate in the City's Long Term Accommodation process.
Skills And Qualifications
  • Knowledge, experience and expertise in the area of workplace dispute resolution is required.
  • Must have the ability to travel to various locations.
  • Strong ability to influence outcomes, verbal and written communications skills as well as strong research organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent problem solving.
  • Minimum of 5 years progressive Human Resources experience.
  • University degree in the field of Human Resources Management, Business, Industrial Relations or a related discipline.

Successful candidates should be prepared for rotation between departments, with appropriate notice, in order to fill vacancies, provide developmental opportunities for staff and to support the operational needs of the client departments.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 85,155.00 - $ 113,541.00
