The Head of Finance, Manulife Bank, Canada Segment will be a strong financial and strategic leader to the CFO & Treasurer, Manulife Bank across all areas of the business, including reporting, analysis and controls.


The role will have interaction/interface with internal and external partners including external auditors and regulators, internal Canada Segment finance staff and a wide array of functional teams within the Bank and Segment. The incumbent will drive operational improvements and efficiency supporting the Finance Transformation within the Bank.


Responsibilities


Financial Reporting Delivery & Oversight


  • Manage all aspects for finance for Manulife Bank including financial planning, expenses, capital, internal controls related to financial reporting, management reporting, budgeting, strategic planning and analysis for the Bank, and compliance with all reporting standards (IFRS, Tax)
  • Identify and implement financial operational improvement initiatives to meet continuous improvement objectives.
  • Oversee the period close process of the respective business areas within Manulife Bank
  • Understand the reporting needs and information requirements of a variety of customers and perspectives.
  • Ensure all financial reporting and analysis standards and requirements are met and that SOX/MAR controls are in compliance.
  • Build effective relationships and establish a high level of credibility with colleagues and senior management across the Segment as well as the global Finance community.
  • Act as the financial and accounting subject matter expert with overall accountability for providing accurate, timely, and reliable reporting and analysis to external audiences including regulatory bodies, rating agencies, and shareholders, as well to internal partners such as Segment senior management, Tax, Segment/Divisional Controllers and to the operating business of Manulife Bank.


Data Integrity and Special projects


  • Act as a trusted advisor on new complex transactions and accounting processes, issues, and work.
  • Oversee the accounting and data requirements for all financial systems that produce accounting results and data including automation opportunities, working with the Systems group to implement improvements and key initiatives
  • Participate in the implementation of new accounting guidelines and / or changes to existing accounting policies and procedures.
  • Provide oversight to the accounting and reporting teams
  • Maintain controls and ensure readiness of reporting tools and databases
  • Work closely with cross functional leads to develop solution on complex accounting and reporting issues.

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and leadership skills for people management.

What We Are Looking For


  • Experience with financial reporting processes, data and information management, controls, reporting and analysis
  • Strong finance background with 10+ years of increasing responsibility in financial accounting / reporting and analysis in Banking
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills with the ability to cater the message to various partners including senior executives
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across the Segment and with external partners; ability to collaborate, negotiate, and influence effectively
  • CPA/CA designation required
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS accounting
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail but have ability to assess complex situation with a big picture mentality.
  • Ability to work with complex structures and consolidation accounting

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.


Primary Location

Salary range is expected to be between


$120,400.00 CAD - $223,700.00 CAD
