In the eyes of every business leader, finance plays a vital role within the leadership team when it comes to establishing and growing a successful enterprise. Our esteemed client, located on the stunning Vancouver Island, stands at the forefront of the consumer heating products industry. We are currently in search of an accomplished and dynamic Head of Finance who can effectively oversee the operations of this rapidly evolving consumer products company. If you possess sharp financial acumen and possess the exceptional ability to cultivate and lead a culture of collaboration, then we have an extraordinary opportunity awaiting you.
Reporting to the President and COO, you will lead a team of seven direct reports as the finance lead for the organization. With operations in Canada, the USA, and Australia, you will be responsible for all financial operations for the business. As the ideal candidate, you will put employees first and help them develop following a core set of values, including quality, innovation, sustainability, business development, integrity, and personal development for all employees. We’re looking for a strong, energetic, yet humble leader to lead by example.
In this position, you will have oversight of all financial functions, including reporting, IT, taxation, financing, internal controls, compliance, data, payroll, forecasting, budgeting, performance, and risk management. Working collaboratively with the Executive Team and the Board, you will provide advice and accurate analysis while making sound recommendations supporting critical business decisions. Working with your highly talented finance team, you will ensure that effective accounting policies, processes, systems, and standards are in place, anticipating the growth and scale of the business. You will oversee the Financial Planning and Analysis functions, including costing, pricing, and margin analysis. Consistent communication across all functions of the business and working collaboratively with the leadership team will be a key focus, building and fostering continuous improvement through coaching, mentoring, and encouraging feedback.
Key Responsibilities:
- Continue to build an effective and high-performance finance team and culture by activating the current talent and focusing on building bench strength for the future, including mentorship of key leaders on the team.
- As a key member of the Executive Team, you will provide effective and insightful support and analysis of annual manufacturing and operational plans, strategic initiatives and development for the future well-being of the business.
- Proactively monitor and oversee risk management within the business, including safeguarding of its assets, and ensuring the integrity of its processes, policies, and systems.
- Responsible for the accurate and timely reporting and analysis of the organization’s financial results. You will need to ensure financial analysis is linked to business results, resulting in a deep understanding of business operations and their effects on overall business performance and objectives.
- Ensure discipline and grounded financial management and performance of the business by providing timely, accurate, and reliable financial information to all internal and external stakeholders with the most effective and efficient organizational structure possible.
- Work closely with the Executive Team on the identification, development, and completion of capital projects and other investment opportunities. Demonstrate exceptionally strong analytical skills and will play a leading role in developing the business case, including financial analysis and due diligence, evaluating such opportunities.
- Continuously optimize the company’s capital structure to prepare the business for future financing and operations, ensuring the company has access to an optimal mix of risk-adjusted, low-cost capital. Work closely with the leadership team and Board to determine the appropriate long-term capital structure and portfolio mix.
Qualifications:
- Equally comfortable in working at a tactical or strategic level with a focus on operations.
- Strengths in all key reporting and compliance requirements, and exposure to treasury, tax, and risk management.
- Collaboration working with a board of directors, demonstrated by positive examples working with board members on strategic initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field; CMA or CPA certification required.
- Providing Executive leadership in infrastructure and data systems.
- Deep financial knowledge and experience within a global, capital intensive, operational financial leadership role and can apply this knowledge and experience in establishing the company’s growth objectives.
- Belief in continuous improvement and consistently look for strategies to improve organizational effectiveness.
- Minimum 5+ years financial leadership experience within a fast-moving consumer products manufacturing company.
- FP&A expertise to ensure the team is laser focused on appropriate initiatives to support the company’s financial and expansion objectives.
- Risk mitigation focused with action plans that will drive the organization forward and capitalize on new business opportunities that increase customer value.
- Keen insight and knowledge of the manufacturing space bringing best practices for Financial Management within a hyper growth company.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in finance, with at least 5 years in a senior financial leadership role.
- Success creating financial growth strategies, along with an entrepreneurial approach, providing long-term strategic financial leadership for growth.
- Proven to be an adept team member who is action oriented, hard-working, self-confident, and highly collaborative.
- Exceptionally adaptive and able to pivot as priorities and deliverables evolve. You have a strong detail orientation and have excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
