Engineering Student: 4-Month Position (Ss.23.21)

Position: Engineering Student (One 4-month position) Division: Environmental and Infrastructure Services Department: Engineering Rate: $17.05 per hour

Location: Simcoe

Hours: 40 hours per week

The duration of this contract will be approximately 4 months. Applicants are expected to fulfill the entire contract period commencing approximately September 4, 2023, until December 22, 2023.

Position Description:

Reporting to the Project Manager, the incumbent will be expected to carry out a variety of tasks relating to the various engineering projects and assist with water and wastewater administration, including:

• Prepare construction cost estimates spreadsheet using prior projects to develop a tool to help with budgeting, planning and forecasting
• Assisting with Engineering estimates, studies, reviews, etc
• Prepare drawings using AutoCAD and/or ArcGIS
• Assisting with construction inspection of Capital projects
• Assist with Tender and Request for Proposal developments
• Update documentation and spreadsheets to keep track of costing for engineering projects to ensure costing estimates contain the most recent, detailed and pertinent information
• Conduct field inspections, traffic surveys and reviews
• Assist with various duties, tasks and assignments within the Engineering Department

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act
• Valid Class G Driver’s License
• University or College student enrolled in a civil or environmental engineering course (or related field)
• Employment is conditional upon: attendance at all training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to the minimum age requirements and ability to meet the employment term.
• At time of application must be enrolled in a post-secondary education institution or institution of higher learning.
• Experience in general operation of office equipment, i.e. fax, photocopier, etc.
• Understanding of surveying principles
• Computer expertise to apply Corporate software, with preference given to students with advanced knowledge in engineering specific programs such as AutoCAD, ArcView, and knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word)
• Applicants must submit a criminal record check (dated within the last 3 months) form their local police service for approval prior to commencing employment.
