☆ Where You Come In


We are looking for a Summer Intern to join our Marketing & Communications team at Make-A-Wish® Canada. We are looking for a driven, energetic, and creative student who enjoys collaboration, research and has fresh ideas! Working with the Marketing & Communications team and reporting to the Manager, Communications, you will gain valuable, real-world Marcomm experience as well as provide the team with administrative and creative support.


This role can be based out of our offices in either Pickering or Toronto (North York). This role is a summer internship at 4 days (30 hours) per week, Monday to Thursday, will complete at the end of August, and is on a hybrid schedule.


☆ What You Will Do


  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assistance with drafting of press materials (i.e. press releases) as required.
  • Once written and approved by the Manager, Communications, ensure wish stories/images are put into Canva templates and filed/tagged appropriately.
  • Dependent on working location of the successful summer student, the student may also be asked to be present at Make-A-Wish events in order to capture imagery for use in media/social media.
  • Brand training will be provided.
  • Assist the National office with writing & updating compelling wish stories/bios that show a wish child’s journey. Wish stories/bios are used for web, social media channels, fundraisers, speaking engagements, etc.


☆ What You Bring


  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent writing and storytelling ability, while adhering to brand.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at least 14 days prior to their first day of work, subject to relevant accommodations or exemptions.
  • A clear Criminal Background Check required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, Canva.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and handle multiple requests.
  • Comfortable in working with other team members and wish parents to gather information if required.
  • Must be able to work to deadlines.
  • Education in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or Marketing (or working towards).

  • Hybrid work environment: 2 days in-office per week, 2 days remote.

  • Repetitive work.
  • High degree of responsibility including confidentiality and day-to-day operations.
  • Works with multiple demands and changing/overlapping priorities.
