The Opportunity

This position works out of our Ottawa, Ontario location in the Point of Care, Diagnostics division. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott’s diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people.

Our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio spans key health and therapeutic areas, including infectious disease, cardiometabolic, informatics and toxicology.

The successful candidate for this position will work as a member of the Sensor Engineering Team and play a key role in improving sensor performance capability by working with process, quality, and test engineers to identify and address sources of variability in sensor performance.

What You’ll Do

Monitoring of sensor performance based on Prebuild test results

Identification, development, and implementation of sensor performance capability improvements

Investigations into product problems caused by sensor/chip variability, including root cause analysis

Investigations into non-conformances and documentation of findings and Corrective/Preventative Actions in Quality Reports

Consistent application of Quality Systems requirements and procedures

Effective communication with operators, equipment technologists, group members of related areas and managers

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering

Ability to design experiments, analyze and interpret data, and document conclusions; experience using statistical methods

Analytical skills, creativity and innovative approach to problem solving

Ability to determine required analysis to make practical, objective decisions about the best solutions to problems

Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills; able to deal effectively with people on all organizational levels and work in a team environment across departments

Familiarity with GMP and LEAN Six Sigma manufacturing principles is an asset.

Familiarity with any of the following is an asset: process engineering, wafer fabrication equipment, automated processing equipment, dispense technology, statistical process control, ISO/FDA regulations, risk management/FMEA methods, root cause analysis (6M’s/ 5 Why’s), machine vision, and statistical software packages such as Minitab and SAS JMP.
