Health Services - Long Term Care


Status: Regular Full Time


Salary Range: $107,121 - $133,902 per annum, plus comprehensive benefits


Work mode: Onsite


Location: 2460 Truscott Dr, Mississauga, ON (Sheridan Villa)


Hours of work: 35 hours per week

Our Health Services Department is looking for a Director of Care to guide a team of dedicated Long Term Care professionals in striving to provide the ultimate resident experience by leading, mentoring and supporting a team to work together to achieve this goal, and celebrate the excellent work we do.

Reporting to the Administrator, you will be responsible for providing leadership, coaching and guidance to assist the staff of the Long Term Care Home in the performance of their duties. Ensuring all service is provided in accordance with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Standards, Regional Values, LTC Division policies and procedures and evidence based practice.


What You Will Do In This Role


  • Develops and implements policies, procedures and programs in accordance with relevant standards and legislation to meet resident changing needs and promotes improvements
  • Maintains current awareness of developments and changes relating to the nursing and personal care requirements of residents
  • Directly/indirectly recruits, trains, supervises, evaluates members of the nursing team
  • Acts as a role model and contributes to the development of a caring, leads a competent Nursing Team that is responsible and accountable for direct resident care activities
  • Ensures all residents receive appropriate individualized care for their physical and emotional well-being and encourages their maximum independence through the activities of the interdisciplinary health care team
  • Oversees admission, orientation, and positive integration of new residents in the Home
  • Ensures adequate nursing records and documentation are maintained in accordance with legal requirements, Ministry standards and Regional policies and procedures
  • Participates in strategic planning activities to enable the Division to adjust to changing needs of residents clients, legislation, Ministry and LHIN requirements
  • Ensures compliance with all legislation, Regional, Provincial and accreditation standards
  • Investigates resident/family concerns in accordance with the policies and procedures
  • Recruits, oversees, monitors and evaluates the delivery of various paramedical services within the centre (i.e. pharmacy, laboratory, dental, podiatry, audiology, physiotherapy, CCAC and optometry services) and manages the signing of contracts
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias


What The Role Requires


  • Demonstrated knowledge of the nursing process and their application to ensure safe and appropriate resident care
  • Minimum of five (5) years progressive responsibility which includes at least three years of managerial or supervisory experience as a registered nurse in a long term care facility
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered
  • RN registration with a current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario with a Baccalaureate degree and a diploma in Long Term Care Administration (Canadian Health Care Association)
  • Applied knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g. Home for the Aged Act, Nursing Home Act, Bill 101, Regulated Health Professions Act, Provincial and CCHSA standards), related Regional policies and procedures and best practices in the long term care business


Skills/Abilities


  • Excellent budgeting skills to formulate and administer a budget
  • Interpersonal skills, which are used in an interdisciplinary environment, with peers, front line staff, suppliers, volunteers, community, residents and their families
  • Strong leadership experience in order to lead, supervise, coach and motivate unionized and non-unionized staff in order to achieve desired results
  • Polished understanding of MS Office and other related Long Term Care software
  • Superior communication skills to interpret legislation, prepare reports, develop policies and effectively convey information to multiple audiences
  • Sound knowledge of gerontology and gerontological nursing as well as an understanding of the needs of the long term care clients.
