Electrical Designer Jobs

JMP Solutions runs on the skill and expertise of our people. The role of Senior Electrical Designer within our Calgary office comes with a variety of different responsibilities, interacting with the team, clients and supporting project execution from a design perspective.

What would a typical day look like?

• Site visits to determine project electrical requirements, interface with clients, and gather information for as-building electrical and automation systems
• Authenticate and Approve designs, as able.
• Develop complete system Bill of Materials including materials specification
• Assist with scoping, quoting, and budgeting for new opportunities and pursuits
• Review electrical equipment specification and data sheets, including transformers, switchgear, MCC’s, protection relays, motors, generators.
• Prepare, and review electrical engineering calculations and drawings including Electrical plans, electrical load lists, single lines, Area classification, Motor control schematics, voltage drop, lighting calculation, Arc flash studies, power distribution, panel design, I/O drawings, junction boxes, power, grounding and instrumentation layout drawings, cable schedules, network diagrams
• Mentoring and supporting other members of the electrical design & automation teams
• As-building of electrical systems
• Prepare and review engineering work packages for construction
• Medium & Low Voltage Electrical system design and development
• Review of facility drawings and documentation to generate electrical and automation engineering designs

What qualifies you for this opportunity?

• Ability to authenticate Professional Work Products is an asset but not a requirement
• Oil & Gas industry experience, minimum 5+ years.
• Time Management and collaborative nature a must
• Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills
• Registration with APEGA as a P.Eng. or P.L. (Eng.), or the ability to register as such in Alberta is an asset but not a requirement
• Working knowledge with AutoCAD (2D and 3D) and/or other Electrical drafting software
• In-depth understanding and practical experience with CSA, CEC, NEC, IEEE, and other accepted industry Codes and Standards
• Experience with incorporating PLC’s, HMI, RTU’s, SCADA, and Networking is an asset
• Motivated & passionate about working with people and overcoming challenges through collaboration and a win-win paradigm
• An Electrical Drafter / Designer OR an Electrical Engineering Technologist OR an Electrical Engineer with 5+ years’ experience; in electrical system design, including automation systems, electrical codes, and design calculations
• An ability to travel; although this position is focused on local clients and minimal travel is required, you should have the ability to travel within US and Canada
