AltaGas - Intermediate/Senior Electrical Engineer

Reporting to the Discipline Engineering Manager, the Electrical Engineer will provide general Subject Matter Expert (SME) support to Operations, Facility Engineers, Projects, other discipline SME's, and the right balance of quality, reliability,and cost, with due consideration to electrical and process safety.

You Will:

• Review (sometimes prepare – for MOC/small projects) Engineering work packages and provide construction/start-up support
• Assign and outline work for third parties, review work for technical accuracy and adequacy. Closely monitor design and ensure the end result is aligned with AltaGas specifications and standards as well as industry best practices, safety, functionality, reliability, and cost expectations
• Support Facility Engineers in the Management of Change (MOC) process – help generate Electrical scope, review and monitor design and execution
• Review Vendor or Contractor selection, quotations, drawings, and specifications for technical adequacy and conformance with project requirements
• Support PE/PM in design/selection resolutions when the Consultant’s recommendations are not aligned with Operations/Project expectations – use strong knowledge and skills to constructively manage internal and external conflicts in AltaGas’ best interest
• Provide technical guidance and support to Operations, Maintenance, Reliability and Facility Engineers.
• Maintain AltaGas’ Electrical accreditation in good standing in Alberta and British Columbia by liaising with the Field Safety Representative/Safety Codes Officer and Operations in safety inspections related items (EQMP Manager)
• Support PE/PM to maintain project schedules, track discipline specific engineering tasks and deliverables and report to PE
• Participate in acceptance testing or inspections for skid installation and wiring
• Complete(for small scopes) or review third party Electrical drawing packages and calculations such as Area Classification, Single Line, Cable Schedule, etc
• Provide discipline input in the project management documentation (Design Basis Memorandum, Project Execution Plan, Project Engineering Plan, VDDR, etc.)
• Participate in project meetings with Engineering Consultants, review/approve all discipline related EPC/EPF deliverables including Electrical Drawings, PID’s, Control Narratives, 3D models, etc. Actively participate in constructability/operability reviews, use expertise to advise on design improvements when required
• Review project end of phase reporting and key deliverables to ensure that Safety Codes requirements and standards are integrated into project documentation
• Interface with multiple internal and external stakeholders: Operations Leadership and field staff, Project Managers, peer SME’s, Supply Chain Management, Engineering Consultants, Vendors and Fabricators, OMS (Operations Management System) Program owners, etc
• Support facility commissioning and start-up and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) as required (assist/approve acceptance testing, review field redlines and Contractor QA/QC packages and start-up procedures, etc.)
• Walk-down field installations and provide feedback to construction management
• Provide discipline support to conceptual and development initiatives, liaise with power Utilities
• Support risk assessment activities - attend monthly multi-tier risk watch/risk review meetings with the facilities leadership teams to promote consistency in risk identification and risk ranking activities

You Have:

• Strong knowledge of applicable Codes, Standards and best industry practices in Alberta and British Columbia
• Ability to support any project from inception to commissioning, with working knowledge of all deliverables, processes and documents involved. Experience or exposure to facilities full life cycle (concept, design, construction, commissioning, tuning, de-bottlenecking, operational and maintenance support) is a strong asset
• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline required
• Ability to travel (5-10%) to attend site visits
• Good knowledge of the electrical equipment on the market and used in the industry, ability to advise Projects and Operations on optimal procurement choices
• Familiarity with various power applications (substations, utility services, off-grid generation)
• Ability to navigate through CAD drawings and 3D models
• Relevant experience in front end project development required
• Proficiency with pdf mark-ups (Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam RevU)
• 5+ Years relevant experience in facilities Electrical design, fabrication, construction, and commissioning/startup support in oil and gas industry, for both green and brown field applications (up to 25kV).
• P. Eng, PL(Eng) or P.Tech (Alberta and/or BC). Tradesperson with relevant education and experience may be considered
