Electrical Engineer - Distribution

Working collaboratively as part of the design team, the Electrical Engineer - Distribution will assist with the development and implementation of client-driven design approaches and solutions. This individual will use knowledge of specialized design concepts and software tools to produce designs and drawings as per industry standard, client requirements and applicable codes and regulations. Efficient delivery of project deliverables, effective quality control, clear communication of expectations to stakeholders and upward reporting to are critical tasks that must be performed throughout each project's lifecycle.

Job Responsibilities

• Completing distribution designs, ordering material, issuing work orders and approvals, as well as conducting field inspections and overseeing contractor management during construction and maintenance activities
• Assist other designers and drafters in carrying out technical tasks.
• Prepare, review and mark for changes, detailed site layout, structural or electrical drawings such as: schematics, profiles, single line diagrams, circuit plans.
• Interact with customers and other team members regarding project requirements and progress updates.
• Authenticating engineering designs, standards and specifications prepared by the individual or under the direct supervision of that individual.
• Performing and reviewing electrical and civil calculations including pulling calculations, clearances due to sag and tension of aerial wires, pole strength calculations and transformer sizing
• Prepare cost estimates and assist in the preparation of project schedules, project monitoring procedures, and provide progress reports as required by project managers and / or clients.

Qualifications & Technical Software Skills

• Experience with aerial line design software such as PLS-CADD, QUICKPOLE, SPIDA Calc is considered an asset.
• Excellent communication skills both written and oral
• Valid Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator's License is required to facilitate travel to work sites for engineering field review.
• Intermediate to advanced skills with MicroStation and AUTOCAD are considered an asset.
• 5+ years of experience in electrical distribution systems with knowledge of underground and aerial distribution design and construction methods
• Diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering and are registered as a Professional Licensee (Eng.) with the ability to review, approve and stamp Electrical Distribution System design
• Degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institute
• Registration with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) or Professional Licensee (Eng.) is required.
• Knowledgeable in Alberta Electric Utility Code and CSA Standard requirements
