Purpose
The Director of Sales - Retail & Food Service is responsible for driving the sales performance of the Sierra Processing business units across our Retail and Food Service functions. This role focuses on maintaining and growing relationships with customers, achieving revenue, volume, and gross margin targets, and ensuring team performance aligns with company KPIs and sales objectives. The Director of Sales will also play a pivotal role in business development, identifying growth opportunities, and maintaining strategic partnerships in the retail and food service sectors. The ideal candidate should possess strong sales leadership skills, polished financial acumen, exceptional communication abilities, and in-depth knowledge of the fresh/ frozen protein space with established retail relationships.
Accountabilities and Detailed Activity:
Sales Performance & Profitability
- Create and update a Strategic Sales Plan, review performance and sales metrics on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Responsible for the Retail & Food service sales and customer facing activities for Sierra Processing Divisions.
- Strong Financial Acumen
- Must be comfortable with selling, cross selling, and areas of inventory control.
- Daily oversight of all sales matters; ensuring profitability is maximized through performance targets and metrics.
Business Development & Growth Opportunities
- Monitor and evaluate business problems, design, and implement actionable recommendations, and track success metrics.
- Meet or exceed business development targets.
- Generate & Qualify new business opportunities
- Liaise with operations in areas of production planning, volume targets, costing, profit maximization and order management.
- Support in the maintenance and growth of all relationships within retail & food service
- Involved in all new/existing relations for customers, suppliers, in the retail & food service space.
Customer Scorecard & Strategic Business Partners
- Manage strategic business partnerships ensuring all client groups are satisfied and promote growth.
- Develop and monitor internal and external customer scorecards with Sierra foods to ensure customer satisfaction metrics are being achieved.
- Lead and improve planning and forecasting processes to seek new business opportunities to secure Sierra’s position as a leader in the food industry.
- Involved in all new/existing relations for customers, suppliers, and all lines of business.
Sales Team Performance & Sales Metrics
- Review and perform performance reviews for team members while ensuring the day-to-day requirements of the sales team are satisfied.
- Ensure there is 100% participation in personal performance planning
- Responsible for team performance against agreed upon company KPI’s and sales targets, ensure they are being met or exceeded.
- Providing leadership, mentoring, oversight and support to the Account Manager Team, Support team.
Requirements:
Education and/or Professional Designation:
A post-secondary degree or diploma or equivalent experience.
Experience:
- 5 years + of experience leading Retail sales activities in at least one of the following protein categories: poultry, beef, or pork. (Fresh or Frozen.
- Existing Relationships with Retailers in the protein space (Walmart, Sobeys, Costco, Freshco, no frills & national food service (SR level).
Communication Skills:
- Strong communication skills with external and internal stakeholders.
- Fluent in English.
- Strong presentation skills.
Technical Skills:
- Reporting & Data Expert.
- Proficient with sales reporting systems and software.
- Strong Financial Acumen.

- Strong writing and presentation skills.
- Analytical and critical thinking to research for data and find root cause of problems.
