About the Role

We are looking for the right person to lead our newly formed Department of People & Culture, as our organization continues to grow and evolve. The Department of People & Culture is a key pillar in ensuring our people-oriented practices and processes reflect our core values by fostering mutually beneficial, trust-based relationships with our employees. The goal is to ensure each employee’s experience is respectful, rewarding, and positive throughout their time with gravitypope. The Director of People and Culture is a member of the senior leadership team and will report directly to the CEO.

This role is accountable for supporting the growth of our culture through people-centered activities in alignment with our values, as well as supporting the professional and personal development of all our individual employees across Canada. The Director of People & Culture will lead the development, documentation and implementation of policies and processes for all employee-focused activities, both individually and as an organization.They will work to set high standards, fostering an inclusive, diverse, respectful, and high-performance workplace. There is a strong emphasis on supporting the development of leadership and people management skills and creating dynamic career paths to support employee progression.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate a strong track record of achieving success in a wide variety of HR areas, particularly in the areas of performance management, leadership, recruitment, and policy development and implementation. As a member of the senior leadership team, they are also responsible for ensuring the organization meet their objectives in a way that aligns with the company mission. The Director of People and Culture must work with all other pillars of the organization, Support Services, Operations, and Brand and Client Experience, to ensure a consistent organizational approach to all new strategic initiatives. They collaborate on high level business strategy and implement changes in their area of responsibility that add value to the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee internal events and budgets
  • Oversee administration of employee documentation
  • Participate in succession and workforce planning
  • Support the hiring, termination, and performance management of employees
  • Report personnel updates to senior team
  • Create and oversee recruiting, onboarding, compensation and retention strategies
  • Ensure legal compliance with all applicable employment and labor laws
  • Oversee internal communication such as the company newsletter and personnel announcements
  • Ensure employees are recognized for their work and top performers have a path for career advancement within the company
  • Develop and implement new initiatives to benefit the employee experience
  • Create, review and present metrics and KPI’s to aid in decision making
  • Build strong relationships with employees throughout the company
  • Maintain and ensure all employees adhere to HR policies and procedures
  • Provide training and support for all areas of responsibility and communication to Managers and Supervisors

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in performance management/appraisal, conflict resolution and change management.
  • Active affiliation with appropriate Human Resources networks and organizations is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Five plus years of experience managing a People & Culture or Human Resources team.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related discipline, a CPHR designation and several years of senior HR experience is required. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Specialized training in employment law, compensation, organizational planning & development, employee relations, learning & development, health & safety, and employee wellness.
  • In-depth knowledge of employment standards and a wide spectrum of Human Resource practice areas.
  • An engaging and optimistic management style with strong interpersonal skills and experience in facilitation, mentorship, and coaching.
  • Ten plus years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources positions.
  • Exceptional leadership skills while demonstrating solid business acumen, problem solving and advisory capability.
  • Experience with implementing HRIS and Talent Management systems is considered an asset.
