SUMMARY:

The Manager – People & Culture is responsible for the accurate and expedient oversight of day-to-day P&C operations including Employee Relations, Recruiting, Onboarding/Offboarding, HRIS/Timekeeping System, Compensation & Benefits, Training & Development, Procurement and general office upkeep with the internal customer experience top of mind. This position is responsible for the delivery of a variety of HR programs and procedures that will ensure not only the company’s legislative compliance obligations are met but the Team Member experience is best in class.


RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:


Strategy & Execution


In conjunction with the Director – People & Culture, develops the P&C business strategy to support organizational and P&C initiatives through analysis of key metrics, knowledge of labour market and P&C trends, and liaising with other P&C functional areas and organization leaders to create a strategy that is both data and business informed to facilitate the prioritization of employee-focused initiatives.

  • Participate and provide support and guidance to the H&S strategy and programs, including the JHSC and WSPS Safety Group Program.
  • Consults and guides department leaders on P&C issues (e.g. terminations, return to work accommodations, conflict resolution, harassment, etc.)
  • Develop and work on a variety of projects that will further enhance HR strategies as required.
  • Creates standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions, ensuring team members are trained and held accountable to adhering to established work processes.
  • Develops, assesses, and monitors P&C practices to ensure effectiveness, efficiency and compliance with applicable legislation and internal policies to ensure best practices and compliance are established and maintained in order to ensure a safe, fun, fair and equitable workplace.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Evaluate existing P&C policies, programs and procedures and regularly recommend and implement improvements.
  • Lead the end-to-end performance management process and programs, providing coaching and guidance to managers, leading talent reviews and running performance management calibration sessions.
  • Drive desired business outcomes based on factual data by developing and maintaining KPIs as well as analyzing and publishing P&C scorecards to provide data-driven recommendations for improvements to P&C programs.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to company/team member functions.
  • Champion the communication strategy for enhancing the efficacy and quality of internal communications for timely and meaningful sharing of information with staff.
  • Establishes and manages a budget for various P&C initiatives ensuring the responsible use of resources and the effective utilization of technology to support P&C efforts.


Relationship & People Management


  • Demonstrates an aptitude and passion for effectively leading teams, actively leading by example each day to motivate, inspire and mentor staff to realize goals.
  • Manage a team that supports the functional areas of People & Culture (human resources, recruitment, and housekeeping.)
  • Conducts training regularly and coaches consistently to ensure employees are taught and can apply essential skills and knowledge to the performance of their daily activities with consistency and effectiveness.
  • Managing internal client relationships while collaborating with key partners other functions/departments, both within and without People & Culture.
  • Promotes a climate of positive employee relations by maintaining open communications with the recruitment team and with other departments who rely on the services and support of these teams.
  • Participates in regular meetings as required, participates in various interdepartmental meetings to resolve issues and improve efficiencies as required.
  • Carries out a variety of performance management activities, including coaching for peak performance throughout the year and completing appraisals as required.
  • Working with the Director to ensure effective management of vendor relationships.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Must have a high sense of urgency and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a passion for recruitment and recruiting exceptional global talent.
  • At least 10 years of progressive HR experience and at least 2 years of direct people management skills.
  • CHRL or CHRP designation an asset.
  • Must have a demonstrated sense of urgency and ability to prioritize tasks and search efforts accordingly.
  • Strong leadership, management and people skills to develop and grow team members and to achieve results through others.
  • Must be flexible, proactive, well-organized, high energy, thrives under pressure and has the ability to produce high quality work for highly engaged businesses in a timely manner; champions the “can-do” attitude, taking on a variety of tasks or challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability and comfort level in public speaking to large crowds.
  • Must have strong communication, partnership, teamwork and influencing skills.
  • High degree of diplomacy and tact; experience working with interview teams and managing up and across the organization.
  • Proficiency with HR information systems, particularly Ceridian DayForce, and with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to provide non-standard support to off-shifts and secondary locations as required.
  • Ability to drive strategy, work with data and analytics and have a demonstrated capability to develop and execute effective and creative employee-focused programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage conflict, build relationships and gain trust within all levels of the organization.
  • Solid business acumen, systems thinking and critical problem-solving skills required.
  • Demonstrated comfort level with senior level decision makers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR or related field required.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and effective influencing skills


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Most work is performed in a standard office environment with limited exposure to adverse conditions or health and safety risks.
  • Occasional overtime with extensive work at a computer monitor, with some after-hours support required.
  • Occasional visits to the warehouse facility environment is required, which requires PPE to be worn and minimal exposure to occupational hazards.
  • Position requires low level of sustained visual attention, moderate manual dexterity on a regular basis with sitting at length.
