Purpose


Provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight of internal and external communications for the Bank's Global Compliance & AML programs, working closely with counterparts in the Global Communications team to ensure goals, plans and initiatives are executed and delivered in support of the Bank's overarching strategy and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.


The Director, Global Compliance & AML Communications is responsible for building and delivering best in class internal and external communications both within the Global Compliance & AML group and enterprise-wide to drive understanding and successful execution of Bank objectives as they relate to Compliance & AML, collaborating with internal business line and functional partners to enhance communications within Global Compliance & AML and across the Bank.


Accountabilities


  • Champions a high performing environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.
  • Works as a strategic and collaborative relationship manager and advisor to the Executive Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer, driving internal and external communications and thought leadership opportunities to support key Compliance goals and initiatives.
  • Understand how the Bank's culture of high performance and customer focus should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Leads and designs creative, robust internal and external communications plans for Global Compliance, including:
  • Facilitating a culture of open and honest communication by actively participating in and contributing to the generation of new ideas and approaches and sharing of best practices;
  • Building effective working relationships with key partners within and beyond Global Compliance and Global Communications, including key business lines and functions;
  • Ensuring appropriate coordination and alignment to connect Compliance & AML initiatives with the broader communications narrative of the Bank, internally and externally.
  • Delivering thoughtful executive communications in support of Compliance & AML programs and initiatives that enhance the profile of leaders and initiatives with key stakeholders across the Bank, and drive employee engagement;
  • Contribute to the effective functioning of Global Communications team by:
  • Providing overall strategic communications for the Global Compliance & AML leadership team through multi-channel communications including executive messages, newsletters, town halls, videos, presentations (as deemed appropriate);
  • Leads and drives a customer-focused culture across the Bank that is underscored by the role Compliance & AML plays in driving the strategic pillars for the Bank.
  • Driving the articulation of the Bank's Compliance & AML narratives and themes (Conduct and Compliance, Building Trust, Enabling a Winning Team) to elevate the function's purpose, strategy, solutions, partnerships, achievements and other relevant milestones.
  • Serving as a spokesperson and advisor for the Bank on Global Compliance issues that are highly sensitive and put the Bank's image and reputation at risk.


Education / Experience / Other Information


  • The incumbent must be diplomatic, flexible, with a positive, mature attitude, and the ability to remain calm under pressure and to deliver under tight timelines.
  • Must also be proactive and creative, with strong, proven ability to plan and manage competing priorities, as well as ability to recognize and appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
  • Minimum undergraduate university degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Business, Marketing, or a related field. A post-graduate certificate in Public Relations is an asset.
  • Leadership experience in a corporate communications role, preferably in a financial services (or regulated) environment. Media relations and social media experience is an asset.
  • Experience in developing videos, online/digital communications, communications websites and graphic design is desirable.
  • Superior verbal and written English communication skills including demonstrable creativity, accuracy and attention to detail. (Spanish is an asset).
  • Proven ability to work both independently and within a team environment.


Working Conditions


  • Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
