Director, Application Development


The Director, Application Development directly supervises solutions architecture and application development and is responsible for day-to-day performance and delivery of applications to the business and clients. Ensures quality delivery of application development. This role also minimizes risk to the business through change management practices.


Duties And Responsibilities


  • Understand the needs of the different business units and of Element itself so that the chosen technology solutions not only deliver successful outcomes but also that the selection, implementation, and documentation processes are consistent across the organization.
  • Define, implement, and track Development and project KPIs.
  • Instill in the team the sense of accountability required to properly balance urgency, quality, risk, and cost.
  • Create and manage a consistent solution review process for assessing, integrating, and implementing vendor solutions for functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Ensure the creation, maintenance, and communication of architecture processes, principles, standards, patterns, and templates, including Element’s SDLC, required to accelerate decision making, deliver quality solutions and support the governance activities.
  • Ensure that IT solutions enable the business strategy and are sustainable in the long term.
  • Coach and mentor the Solution Architects to ensure that they engage with our business partners, are fully conversant on the business strategies, and are equipped to deliver on business needs.
  • Lead, hire and grow a team of in-house and 3rd party solutions architects and developers to deliver products and capabilities tied to the Element product roadmap.
  • Oversee vendor relationships and partner with senior management to evaluate vendor performance and optimize spend.
  • Develop and lead the governance practices required to ensure alignment between Business Strategies, Business needs, and IT solutions.


Qualifications


  • General knowledge of systems (e.g., various programming languages, databases and network architectures, design patterns, etc.)
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty.
  • 3+ years demonstrated ability leading and motivating multiple application development teams.
  • A strong customer focus
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to close transactions.
  • 10 years of experience in the field or in a related area (must include experience as a Developer or Solutions Architect or similar)
  • Demonstrated experience managing the support and enhancement of software running in a high-volume production environment.
