We are currently accepting applications for a full-timeCorporate Climate Response Coordinator(Coordinator) to join our team. The Coordinator will focus on planning and implementing projects along with developing policies and programs with the primary focus on reducing Comox Valley Regional District’s corporate greenhouse gas emissions (50 per cent reduction by 2030, net zero by 2050). A critical component of this position is to decarbonize CVRD facilities and fleet through energy retrofits and fuel switching as well as pursuing renewable energy and heat recovery projects. The Coordinator will also provide support for the implementation of community climate projects including active transportation and transit. Reporting to the Manager of Transit and Facilities, the primary responsibilities of this role include:
- Coordinating and investigating opportunities with CVRD facilities and infrastructure for energy conservation, district energy, waste heat recovery, fuel switching and renewable energy;
- Facilitating an increased awareness across the organization of corporate climate impacts and actions;
- Assisting with implementation of projects related to CVRD infrastructure and facilities, including energy retrofits and new construction;
- Updating, monitoring and implementing the Corporate Energy and Emissions Plan (CEEP) and the annual corporate energy emissions inventory;
- Focusing on the corporate perspective, the Coordinator will identify resources, risks and opportunities for projects entailing climate adaptation, resilience and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reductions;
- Supporting CVRD corporate climate action initiatives in relation to achieving carbon neutrality and GHG reduction targets;
- Collaborating with internal staff from a variety of departments to develop and implement work plans related to CEEP initiatives;
- Supporting the development and administration of corporate climate action policies and programs related to green buildings, procurement and life cycle cost analysis;
- Developing staff reports and other correspondence to support corporate climate action initiatives and provide guidance to staff and elected officials;

- Current knowledge of provincial, regional and corporate plans, programs, policies and practices related to climate action and adaptation including, the Local Government Climate Action Program, CleanBC Roadmap to 2030, Climate Preparedness and Adaptation Strategy, Climate Action Charter, Comox Valley Regional Growth Strategy, CVRD Corporate Energy and Emissions Plan.
- A confident, professional speaker with the ability to make presentations of complex material in understandable terms;
- Knowledgeable in project management methodologies and able to provide day-to-day oversight of external consultants/contractors/stakeholders and execute projects;
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with strong skills in Adobe Acrobat, Explorer, SharePoint, IMAP and using programs for energy and emissions tracking.
- Educated in an applicable undergraduate degree of four years or equivalent in environmental studies with a focus on sustainability, climate change, or other related field from an accredited university with over two up to three years of directly related experience in climate action/adaptation and energy/emissions reductions. OR educated in an applicable diploma of over two and up to three years, or equivalent in environmental studies with a focus on sustainability, climate change, or related field from an accredited institute of technology with over four up to five years of directly related experience in climate action/adaptation and energy/emissions reductions. (An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered);
- A strong communicator with excellent facilitation and leadership skills;
A valid BC Class 5 driver’s license is required for this role. Successful candidates will be required to consent to a Canadian Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector search if applicable).
