Assistant Fire/Emergency Services Coordinator


Department: COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT


Overview: Under the direction of the Fire/Emergency Coordinator, help in leading, overseeing and coordinates operation and services of HNC Emergency/Fire Services.


Duties


  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of effective supervision, training and discipline of personnel;
  • Ability to supervise and participate in the preparation of all necessary reports, records and correspondence;
  • Assists in Environmental Health and Safety practices;
  • Respond to emergencies, tsunami, boat distress, search and rescue;
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief Operating Officer and Community Development Manager.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various civic and business officials, staff, and general public;
  • Responsible for actively recruiting volunteer fire fighters;
  • Attend weekly meetings/practices with the Volunteer Fire Department;
  • To follow the HNC employee personnel policy and manual;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form to promote and maintain effective public relations for the department and community;
  • Responsible for mentorship of all volunteer training and certifications;
  • As required for overtime due to medical emergencies, 70 hour biweekly work week, based out of the Firehall in Kitamaat Village;
  • Responsible for continuous development and improvement of all departmental services and excelsis a high degree of independent action, judgement and initiative on administrative, operational, and technical matters, problems and decisions;
  • Knowledge or willing to learn to effectively administer the operations of a fire department;
  • Assist in planning, organizing, coordinating all fire suppression, related emergency services and fire prevention operations and programs for the Kitamaat Village Community;


Qualifications


  • Willing to provide a Police Information check,
  • OFA 3 or EMR certification;
  • Preferred grade 12 graduate;
  • Must have Class 5 BC Driver's License;
  • Experience in the Fire/Emergency field;
  • Knowledge of fire protection;
  • Display sound leadership and supervisory skills;
  • Preferred fire fighting certificates;
  • Extensive knowledge of the fire department rules, regulations, standing orders, policies, procedures and applicable Federal and Provincial Codes, Acts and Bylaws;
  • Must be willing to work all hours required;
