About us
Our goal is to Sending more players on to college hockey every season than any other hockey league in Canada, the BCHL has established itself as a national leader in the development of young student-athletes. Considering today’s NHL features more NCAA alumni than ever before, college-tracking junior hockey is fast-rivalling other leagues in North America as a breeding ground for the sport’s most elite and successful players. In 2022-23, the BCHL broke its single-season record with 190 NCAA DI committed athletes on team rosters. The new way forward and focus for the BCHL is Modern Hockey. The tagline represents a shift in culture for the BCHL as it moves into a modern style of play and operation at the team and league levels. Within the Modern Hockey brand are four pillars on which the league is built: Speed and Skill, Player Safety, Education and Community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communicate important dates, deadlines, and regulatory updates to teams in a clear and timely manner.
- Provide administrative support as necessary, including filing documents, maintaining internal databases, and other tasks to optimize the efficiency of the hockey operations department.
- Review and administer transfers, protected lists, and the Rinknet registry.
- Ensure team rosters are updated on the league's website and comply with roster rules, promptly addressing discrepancies or issues.
- Day-to-day logistics within the Hockey Operations Department.
- Conduct research and gather data for competition-related planning purposes and to enhance athlete recruitment content.
- Report directly to the Vice President of Hockey Operations, providing regular updates on ongoing tasks, potential concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with the Manager of Events to support the planning and execution of league events.
- Understand and uphold team adherence to BCHL Regulations and Bylaws.
- Maintain the accuracy of league box scores promptly and accurately based on submitted scoring changes.
- Manage the registration platform to ensure all athletes and coaches meet eligibility requirements.
- Assist in coordinating league-wide initiatives and special projects, contributing to the upward growth of the BCHL.
- Provide comprehensive team support and assist in managing relationships with partners and suppliers.
- Assist the Department of Player Safety, including the review of nightly infractions and supplemental discipline.
- Act as the central point of contact for teams, liaising between the league office and designated team contacts.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to attend games, meetings and league events.
- An undergraduate degree in Sport Management, Business, or a related field.
- Experience as an athlete in the British Columbia Hockey League and/or the NCAA is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and cooperative working skills.
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
- Proficient computing skills with extensive knowledge of all Microsoft Office programs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to accurately analyze, interpret, summarize, and present data.
