POSITION: Organizer
Salary and benefits will be in accordance with CMAW ICI agreement.
Additionally, a condition of employment is to supply your own vehicle under an agreement of compensation.
Travel within BC and Canada may be needed, as required.
PRINARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/CRITICAL TASKS:
·In coordination with the CMAW Local 1998 executive will assist with organizing drives and issue-orientated
campaigns.
·Research potential targets for organizing.
·Follow up on all organizing leads working in collaboration with the local business agents and representatives.
·Meet with prospective members.
·Draft organizing materials.
·Prepare and participate in meetings, demonstrations and rallies.
·Mobilize workers and coordinate actions.
·Train and assist worker union support and leadership potential for future growth with minimal assistance, including acquiring and motivating members.
·Gather, analyze and present information to potential members and Union officers.
·Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
·Previous union organizing experience an asset.
·Demonstrated history of experience in the construction industry.
·Proficiency in Microsoft administrative software.
·Time management, scheduling and organizational skills.
·Be self-directing with a strong attention to detail.
·Excellent oral and written communication skills.
·Excellent interpersonal communication skills that are clearly evident both in person and over the phone,
included a demonstrated ability to recruit and motivate workers.
·Demonstrated ability to be proactive and self-starting and work in a team based environment.
·Ability to track, compile, and analyze campaign data, continuously assess progress and develop plans on how
to overcome barriers.
·Working knowledge of the law of organizing in BC and the procedures of the Labour Relations Board.
·Ability to take direction and work under pressure.
·Demonstrated interest and/or participation in trade union activities essential.
