Detailed Overview


Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families:


Under the direction of the Leader, South Asian Health Institute (SAHI) and liaising with staff in the assigned areas, the Coordinator assists with development, coordination, supervision and evaluation of the volunteer programs and services for the South Asian Health Institute. This includes recruitment, supervision, evaluation and recognition of all volunteers in the assigned areas.


Responsibilities


  • Develops service descriptions, standards and procedures specific to volunteer resources for SAHI.
  • Provides orientation and training for volunteers in conjunction with staff members in the assigned areas.
  • Makes recommendations with regard to the purchase of new equipment and supplies, maintaining equipment for volunteer programs.
  • Assigns volunteers to specific activities according to their aptitudes, abilities and availability and maintains the schedules of volunteer participation within the SAHI.
  • Prepares written and verbal evaluations of volunteers. Conducts volunteer performance evaluations, provides support, direction and discipline, when necessary.
  • Receives and answers correspondence dealing with volunteer programs, special activities and community involvement.
  • Acts as an advocate for volunteers in dealing with a variety of issues and promotes the integral role of volunteers in enhancing the quality of programs.
  • Interviews volunteers to determine aptitude and abilities. Checks references and selects those suitable for assigned programs.
  • Represents SAHI volunteer programs at relevant meetings.
  • Participates in the department quality program by evaluating volunteer activities and making recommendations for improvements to ensure volunteer programs meet the needs of the SAHI.
  • Assists with the maintenance of relevant manuals and recommends and updates policies relating to the volunteer programs.
  • Liaises with staff, clients, and specific community groups to identify a range of volunteer opportunities, and, under direction of the Leader, develops and implements volunteer programs designed to meet client needs.
  • Participates in the coordination of recognition and appreciation initiatives for volunteers in assigned areas, including individual volunteers, community and corporate groups, to acknowledge volunteer contributions.
  • Maintains related records and statistics and submits reports of activities and performance of volunteers to the Leader.
  • Provides input into the development of the volunteer program for the SAHI.
  • Functions as part of the multi-disciplinary care team in assigned areas to provide volunteer involvement that supports the services provided.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Participates in recruitment publicity campaigns and community volunteer recruitment events, provides information to and attends community group meetings to promote volunteer involvement.


Qualifications


Education and Experience


Completion of a recognized diploma, and/or Volunteer Management Certificate plus three to five years of related experience, which includes experience as a volunteer, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that is acceptable to the Fraser Health.


Valid BC Driver’s License; access to personal vehicle for business purposes.

  • Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications (Microsoft Office, VolunteerWorks).

  • Familiar with the ethical guidelines, standards of practice and Volunteer Administration codes.
  • A high degree of discretion and maturity in handling confidential information and situations.
  • Ability to coordinate, plan, develop, implement, organize, evaluate and problem solve tasks and objectives
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
