Co-Operative Student Placement; Genetics

The Genetics Assistant Co-op student will provide assistance to clinical staff in servicing patients. Duties will include, but are not limited to, assembling academic literature for clinical staff, coordinating genetic testing and liaising with genetic testing laboratories, tracking patient lab results, entering data into research and clinical databases, and providing administrative support to clinic staff.

• Demonstrated self-starter as evidenced by personal initiatives, such as community or school activities
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as evidenced by previous work requiring such skills
• Demonstrated tact and discretion in dealing with patient information
• Enrolled or completion of a degree in a science field
• Mature, dependable and pleasant
• Sensitive individual with the ability to relate to patients

Unit Summary
Genetic and Metabolic services are provided jointly by the Department of Pediatrics at McMaster Children’s Hospital, and the Department of Laboratory Medicine at McMaster University Medical Centre, at Hamilton Health Sciences. The Genetics & Metabolics service is a dynamic program providing specialized care for children and adults in a family-centered environment.
Schedule Work Hours
Monday to Friday - Day shift 0830-0430; 16 week duration beginning September 2022. This position is Temporary until December 2023.
