Matchbox Consulting Group is seeking a Construction Supervisor to join our client, one of the largest utilities companies in BC. They will act as a construction site coordinator and inspector on multiple or large civil, electrical, and/or mechanical projects to ensure the work, materials, progress, and cost meet expectations. This position is a 4 month contract opportunity, always with a possibility of extension if successful in the position.
The Construction Supervisor will be responsible for managing projects that our client has throughout the Northern and Southern interior of BC. Projects are located between the Prince George and Terrace corridor, but they are open to candidates who are open to a fly in fly out position from Vancouver or Vernon too. Project types range from new, upgrading and retrofitting of Substations, Capacitor Stations, new and upgrading/improving the transmission line infrastructure throughout the province.
With the fly in fly out structure, the work rotations based on location of the work and candidate place of residence. Most rotations are a 14-7 rotation with potential for 10-4.Local Candidates may be able to work a 5-2 however project schedule may require rotations for adequate project coverage.Travel and accommodations are paid for while engaged on work for the projects/portfolios.
Responsibilities:
- Act as a subject matter expert by providing advice on complex technical issues to develop future capability
- Ensure work site safety by prioritizing the safe execution of work and performing Safe Work Observations using excellent knowledge in safety standards and regulations to improve safety performance.
- Conduct or coordinate site testing, surveying, and estimating activities by using good working knowledge of engineering drawings to enable timely progression of projects. The potential working conditions may include adverse weather and working at heights or underground.
- Support contract and/or work order administration by collaborating with contractors and/or internal construction services to ensure that the work, materials, progress, and costs meet expectations so that projects are implemented as planned.
- Respond appropriately to internal and third-party construction inquiries by using excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to professionally represent the company on-site, as assigned.
- Inspect construction work which may be on substations, transmission lines, and hydroelectric equipment by using excellent skills in inspection procedures and understanding of construction methods to meet deadlines and comply with building and safety codes.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Equivalent of seven (7) years of related construction work experience.
- Completion of a National Diploma of Technology in either Civil & Structural or Electrical from an Institute of Technology or relevant trades apprenticeship course
- Additional experience in Contract Management is an asset
