About Invictus Games 2025:


The Invictus Games is a biennial international adaptive sporting competition for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans from around the world. Through the power of sport, the Games inspire recovery, support rehabilitation, and generate a wider understanding and respect for those who have served their country.


The Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 will take place from February 6 to 17, 2025, on the traditional territories of the Lil̓wat7úl (Líl̓wat), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Over 500 wounded, injured and sick service personnel and Veterans from more than 20 nations are set to compete in a wide range of adaptive sports, including adaptive winter sports, for the first time in Invictus Games history.


The Vancouver Whistler Games Corporation (VWGC) is a Canadian not-for-profit organization established to organize and host the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025.


The Role


Reporting to the Director of Community Engagement, the Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for the execution of brand-building Invictus Games 2025 events and experiences, including the One Year to Go celebration and Invictus Games expedition, and support the Director in all community event appearances. Working within a team the Community Engagement Coordinator will support driving and activating community support for IG2025 in both Vancouver and Whistler.


Key Areas of Responsibility:


  • Work closely with the Operations & Commercial Teams to connect with community partners, hotel partners, etc. to offer in-house training to support brand building for the Invictus Games 2025.
  • Work closely with Operations Team to access opportunities with sports organizations for community activations at existing events, tournaments, and festivals throughout Vancouver and Whistler.
  • Support the external PR agency to support media opportunities at the One Year to Go celebrations
  • Support volunteer recruitment at community events and with the Commercial team to support ticket and merchandise sales.
  • Coordinate the execution of external public and community events to advance the brand and awareness of the Invictus Games 2025.
  • Work closely with Director, Events and Experience, and Operations Team on coordinating transportation, security and ensuring protocol requirements are met for the One Year to Go celebrations.
  • Support in the development and execution of community outreach programs, including engagement with schools and local clubs.
  • Community Engagement and Outreach
  • Coordinate a robust calendar of community engagement events, working with partners and stakeholders to build relationships and connect with the community.
  • One Year to Go Celebrations
  • Support the Commercial team to develop opportunities to highlight and activate corporate partners at the One Year to Go celebrations.
  • Support volunteer training and coordination in collaboration with the Volunteer Manager to staff community engagement events.
  • Executes on the strategy and plans for the public One Year to Go celebrations, taking place in February 2024 in both Whistler and Vancouver


Qualifications & Skills:


  • Fluency in French (verbal and written) are assets.
  • Proven ability to assess problems and identify workable solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Post secondary degree or diploma in Business Administration, Communications, or equivalent
  • 2+ years event large-scale coordination; destination event planning experience is considered an asset
  • Ability to support and educate clients, and maintain a professional relationship
  • Proven project coordinator capability and ability to execute plans and allocate resources accordingly to prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Passion for or understanding of the Invictus Games mission and/or the Canadian military
  • Flexibility to attend evening and weekend events and to travel between communities (Vancouver & Whistler) on occasion
